COUNTING FRUIT 3-PART CARDS
Preparation
For best results, print on bright white cardstock (65lbs or more).

There are two complete sets of cards in this set. The first set includes dotted grey lines between the numbers and the
corresponding images, while the second set does not.

Cut along dotted grey lines to separate each of the cards. You should end up with a set of control cards, a set of
image cards and a set of labels as pictured below:

control card image card label

Presentation
For the first lesson, begin with just a few cards (1-5).

Begin by placing the Control Cards on the mat/table one at a time and in numerical order. Slowly count the objects
out loud and while touching each object (i.e., “one, two, three, four, five) and then point to the number below (i.e., 5)
and read the number out loud such that your child begins to recognize the numbers associated with each quantity.
Continue for each card you have selected.

Next you will present the image cards one at a time. The cards need not be presented in numerical order this time. As
you reveal the selected card, again, use your finger to slowly count the objects out loud. Then place the image card
beside the corresponding Control Card.

Finally, you can present the label cards, one at a time by simply reading the label, and then matching to the
corresponding image card. Place the label beneath the image card. The final set will appear like this:

After receiving the lesson above, your child is now ready to work with the material independently. Again, you may
want to start with a small subset of cards until the full set of cards has been presented in subsequent lessons.

FRESH FRUIT GREATER THAN OR LESS THAN
Preparation
Print on bright white cardstock. Cut along grey dotted lines to separate the 15 > cards.

Separate each equation card by cutting around the edge of the green lines. You should end up with 15
equation cards and 30 number cards.

Presentation
Begin with a smaller subset of cards (1-5 cards).

Beginning on the left side of the card, use your finger to count the fruit aloud. Find the corresponding
number card and place it beneath the left side of the equation card. Repeat this for the right side of the
equation. Now ask “which is more, 5 or 8 (for example)?”. Next place the < or > symbol in the center of
the equation with the opening facing the larger number (for example 5 < 8).

Continue for each card you have selected. Once your child can complete this work independently, you
can increase the number of cards being worked on during a work period.

FRESH FRUIT MATCHING AND MEMORY GAME
Preparation
Print on bright white cardstock (65lbs or heavier). Cut along grey dotted lines to separate the cards.

Presentation
Matching:
In this activity, the cards are separated into two identical groups. Begin by laying out the cards from one group in a
row, one at a time. Say the name of each fruit as you place it on the mat. Once all the cards have been laid out,
take a card from the second pile and place it beside it’s match. You can repeat the name of the fruit at this time.

You may wish to begin with a smaller subset of cards and then gradually add more cards to increase the difficulty.

Once the lesson has been presented, the child is ready to work independently.

Memory Game:
Lay the cards out in a grid, image-side down. Turn over any two cards. Do they match? If not, turn them back over.
Now turn over another card. Do you recall seeing this card? Where is it? Encourage the child to locate the matching
card. Once a match has been found, remove those cards and place them to the side.

This game can be played in small groups or individually. For younger children, start with a smaller subset of cards, and
gradually add more cards to increase the difficulty.
