Around 1300, centuries of prosperity and growth in

Europe came to a halt. A series of famines and plagues,

including the Great Famine of 1315–1317 and the Black
Death, reduced the population to around half of what it had
been before the calamities. Along with depopulation came
social unrest and endemic warfare.🪶

RULES

1. Because the average life span is so short, you can (optional) start your
decades-long challenge with THREE different generation 1 sims.
a. One of the three must be the starting heir.
b. The other two will automatically become side households and you
must treat them as such.
i. Go ahead and skip the side household marriage rolls and
baby rolls for these sims.
ii. ONLY these sims are granted automatic marriage and up to
10 pregnancies. (Keep in mind that that doesn't guarantee all
10 pregnancies will end with 10 children.)
c. (If you are going to start with three sims) Your THREE starter
sims must all be related.
i. Obviously, your THREE sims didn't spawn out of thin air.
You may go ahead and make parents for your sims.
ii. The parents DO NOT count as your first generation (Your 3
starter sims are your automatic first gen).
iii. Roll immediately for the parents to see if they survive under
their age stage.
2. You may marry off your starting heirs at the age of 16 or older.
a. Teen age-stage starts off at 13 so you can marry them off 3 years
after the start of the teen stage.
b. The 1300s average life span is really short so marrying off your
sims in their teen stage will be ideal
c. You can wait till young adulthood if you’re not using mods.
3. You MUST pay a dowry of at least §500 (to marry poor), §5000 (to marry
middle class) or §10,000 (to marry rich) for all your female Sims to be
able to get married (for now…)
a. If your sim cannot afford payment then sell off the most valuable
item your sim owns and don't keep the money (but now your sim
automatically marries dirt poor).
4. Only when your heir sims get married may you receive §2,500 simoleons
for getting married.
5. Your Sims may divorce amicably.
6. Only the eldest male heirs can inherit.
a. If you have NO male heir then the eldest daughter’s husband may
inherit.
b. If you have NO children left then look to the next closest side-
household male to inherit.
7. No sims can woohoo or do any similar act unless married until stated
otherwise.
a. However, if your Sim does woohoo and has a child out of wedlock
then the child cannot inherit the heir title.
8. Your sims cannot have any leftovers since there's no way to store food in
the game. Don’t do so until stated otherwise.
9. You cannot adopt sims for now...unless it's from your own side household
family who has a toddler or child with NO parents.
10. If you're using mods (which is suggested) then check pregnancy chances
further down below for your heir age stage pregnancy percentage chance.
a. If you're not using mods, Sims may ONLY “try for baby”.
11. Your sims can have dogs and cats as pets (Cats & Dogs DLC) but if they
get sick you cannot take them to the vet.
12. If a sim gets sick naturally in-game then you can't cure them with
medicine. You can only use natural remedies.
13. If a Sim dies, you can plead to the Grim Reaper to spare your Sim’s life.
You never know, it might work….
14. Births must occur at home, NOT at the hospital.
15. Babies can only be fed through breastfeeding and not by bottle (unless
the mother dies then make an exception).
16. Your sims can have weddings with these traditions (My Wedding Stories

BUILD/BUY

1. Sims can enjoy a hot spring outdoors but not an indoor hot spring
(Snowy Escape).
2. You must play with Lot challenges:
○ Off the grid & simple living (if you have Eco Lifestyle &
Cottage Living DLC). Since there's no electricity, sewage,
running water, and grocery stores, your sims must survive
on their own!

3. You can have as many (Cottage Living) animals as you can afford.
4. There is NO electricity so you can ONLY use candles and lanterns
to light your home until stated otherwise.
5. You can use bushes as toilets but all the toilets are too modern.
You could always use the woodworking toilet sims craft until stated
otherwise. (I suggest using cc chamber pots for indoor use.)
6. You can ONLY use the wooden bathtub to bathe until stated
otherwise.
7. ONLY wooden furniture is allowed in the house.
8. You can only use stone, dirt, or wooden floors and walls. No
drywall, wallpaper, etc.
9. Straw roofs only.
10. Rugs and tapestries are allowed.
11. Use wooden counters. (You can also download some medieval cc
counters for a more accurate look.)
12. Buy the oldest looking off the grid lot stove, fridge, and no other
kitchen appliances. (There's some really good medieval stove and
fridge cc that better fits the time period than anything in game.)
13. Painting styles allowed are Landscape & Classic, & portraits. Kids
drawing cannot be hung. They must be disposed of or sold.
14. Not allowed: coffee and tea brewers, DJ equipment, earbuds, kids
tablets, thermostats, rocking chairs, mirrors, playground equipment,
electronics, and anything that wasn't available in the 1300’s
15. Place down a clothing line and wash basin to do your sim's laundry.
STATS

Pregnancy Chances

❖ Sims who are your heirs must use percentages to get pregnant:
Teen 30%
Young Adult 25%
Adult 20%
Adult End of Life 10%
Elder 0%
Side Household Marriage Rolls

❖ For side households, you will have to roll to see how many birth
attempts they are awarded.
➢ The # you roll on the dice means how many births your side
households are allowed to try for.
Roll a D20 for Side Households
When Child, Roll D20 for Marriage
Roll 1 -3 = Never Marry
Roll 4 - 20 = Get Married

Side Household Baby Rolls

❖ All sims who are not heirs must roll to see how many pregnancies
they can TRY for. Here are the chances for those sims:
Roll a D12 for # of baby attempts
2-12 = # of Pregnancies
1 = No Children

Death Rolls

❖ For birthing sims, if the sim has twins or triplets then you must roll
again for each extra child.
❖ For the Adult End of Life roll, multiply the number you roll from the
roller by 4 and that should give you the amount of days left (aka the
amount of years your sims have left).
❖ Life expectancy in the 14th century was really really low. A lot of
children didn't survive and generally, men reached the age of 24
and women reached the age of 33. Here are the chances for
survival for your sims:
Death Roll Life Stage Sim Days Length Age
1 Birth 3 9 months
5, 10, 15, 20 Babies 1 3 months 0 - 3 months
12, 16, 18 Infant 5 1.25 years 3 months - 1.5 year

HARVESTING

Since you’re using the simple living lot trait (Cottage Living DLC) then you have
to grow your own food or be forced to starve. Here are the crops you can grow
according to each season (Season DLC) and during this time period.

[If you're using the Ye Old Cookbook mod then these are the fruits and
vegetables it uses]

1. You can only harvest ONCE per season so be wary about how long you
set your calendar.

EVENTS

1315 -1317 The Great Famine

[The Great Famine of 1315–1317 was the first of a series of large-scale crises that
struck Europe early in the 14th century. Most of Europe was affected. Crop failures were not the
only problem; cattle disease caused sheep and cattle numbers to fall as much as 80%. The
period was marked by extreme levels of crime, disease, mass death, and even cannibalism and
infanticide. Historians debate the toll, but it is estimated that 10–25% of the population of many
cities and towns died.]

❖ During this time period, you CANNOT grow any crops.

❖ You MUST sell ALL your livestock (if you have any) since you can no
longer feed or care for them for simoleons or ingredients.(Cottage Living
DLC)
❖ Food is scarce so now you can only feed your sims ONE meal a day.
➢ Your Sims can drink as much water as you’d like.
❖ In 1317, roll a D8 for EACH of your Sims (even your side households) to

1337 -1360 Part 1 of the 100 Year War

[The first phase of the Hundred Years War was between France and England that lasted

King Edward III of England. Who claimed the French throne in defiance to King Phillip VI of
France.]

❖ In 1337 roll a D4 for any male Teen - Adult Sim to see if they head off to

household to a war camp.
❖ Your Sims must live on the camp for 5 years.
❖ In 1342 roll a D20 for your currently enlisted sims. If your sim rolls a 3 then
they die as a cause of war. If your Sim survives, then they can go back
home.

then they die as a cause of war. If your Sim survives, then they can go
back home.
❖ In 1357 roll a D4 for any male Teen - Adult Sim to see if they head off to
war again. Do this for ALL your sims (even your side households) EVEN if
they were enlisted before.
❖ If your sim rolls a 4 then they go to war and must move out of your sims
household to a war camp.
❖ Your Sims must live on the camp for 5 years.
❖ In 1360 roll a D20 for your currently enlisted sims. If your sim rolls a 7 then
they die as a cause of war. If your Sim survives, then they can go back
home.

1348 - The Black Plague

[The Black Death was the second great natural disaster to strike Europe during
the Late Middle Ages and is estimated to have killed 30 percent to 60 percent of the
European population, as well as about one-third of the population of the Middle East.]

❖ In 1348, Flip a coin to see which of your sims live or die.

➢ If the coin lands on Heads, then your sims die of the Black Plague.
If the coin lands on Tails, then your sim lives and survives the
Black Plague.
❖ Roll for EVERY single sim in your main & side households.

1369 -1389 Part 2 of the 100 Year War

[The Caroline War was the second phase of the Hundred Years' War between France
and England, following the Edwardian War. It was so-named after Charles V of France, who
resumed the war nine years after the Treaty of Brétigny. The Kingdom of France dominated this
phase of the war]

❖ In 1369, roll a D4 for any male Teen - Adult Sim to see if they head off to

1380 - Poll Tax

[In 1380, a poll tax of twelve pence per adult was imposed, the third poll tax in four
years. It brought to a head the economic discontent that had been growing since the
middle of the century.]

❖ Only your main household must pay a one-time fee of §5,000.

1381 - Peasants Revolt

[The Peasants' Revolt, also named Wat Tyler's Rebellion or the Great Rising, was a
major uprising across large parts of England in 1381. The revolt had various causes, including
the socio-economic and political tensions generated by the Black Death in the 1340s, the high
taxes resulting from the conflict with France during the Hundred Years' War, and instability
within the local leadership of London.]
❖ About 1,500 rebels were killed in the peasants' revolt, which is too small of
a pool to roll for. So pick ONE side household family of your choice (if you
don't have any then skip this event), they are now rebels.
❖ Any teen - elder is automatically tracked down and executed.
❖ If there are any babies - children, they are now automatically orphans.
