Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman Birthday
u Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman was born at
Tiruchirappalli in Southern India on November 7th,
1888.

u He discovered the Raman Effect on 28 February,


1928 and for this discovery, he was honoured by
the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.

u He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1954, the


highest civilian award in India.

u In 1957, he was awarded the Lenin Peace Prize.


Justice Rajendra Menon appointed as Chairman of
Armed Forces Tribunal/!यायम&ू त( राज,- मेनन को सश45

Former Delhi High Court Chief Justice Rajendra Menon has been re-
appointed as Chairman of the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT).

Justice Menon will serve as Chairman of the Tribunal till he attains the age of
70 years on June 6, 2027.

Justice Menon also served as Welfare Commissioner for the Bhopal Gas
Victims Compensation

He was elevated as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on March 15, 2017
and remained at the post till his transfer to the Delhi High Court.

This marks his second consecutive term as Chairman, having initially been
nominated for the position in 2019.

Bangladesh will host the 24th Asian Archery
Championships in 2025 after winning votes in
the bid at the World Archery Asia Congress
held in Bangkok, Thailand.

A total of twenty four member countries of

u Suyash Jadhav, an Indian para swimmer, revealed his experience


obtaining the Asian Para Games Bronze medal autographed by Prime
Minister Narendra Modi. Suyash was the sole Indian swimmer to earn a
medal in the Hangzhou - Asian Para Games in October 2023.
India beats Pakistan in penalty shootout, wins
bronze at Sultan of Johor Cup 2023
The Indian junior men's hockey team won the bronze medal by defeating
Pakistan in the penalty shootout at the 11th Sultan Johor Cup.

The Indian junior men's hockey team won the final of the Sultan of Johor
Cup 2022 by defeating Australia in October 2022. This was the junior men's
hockey team's third Johor Bahru title.

The 11th Sultan of Johor Cup 2023 was held in Johor, Malaysia from 27
October to 4 November 2023. A total of eight teams participated in this
year's edition, expanded from the traditional six.

The Indian team led by Uttam Singh will now play in the FIH Junior World
Cup. This Junior Hockey World Cup will be played in Kuala Lumpur from 5 to
16 December 2023.
Surendra Adhana
Senior Indian diplomat, Surendra Adhana, has been
re-elected to serve on the Advisory Committee on
Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ) at
the United Nations for the term 2024-26.

The ACABQ is an expert committee comprising 21


members elected by the General Assembly.

The committee is elected for a three-year term and


is carefully structured to ensure broad geographical
representation.

To examine and report on the budget submitted by


the Secretary-General to the General Assembly;

To advise the General Assembly concerning any


administrative and budgetary matters referred to it

would continue to provide free foodgrains to beneficiaries under the

u PMGKAY is a part of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package


(PMGKP) to help the poor fight the battle against Covid-19.

Jal Diwali -“Water For Women, Women For Water
Campaign” Launched
u The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) is all set to unveil a progressive
initiative "Women for Water, Water for Women Campaign" under its flagship
scheme - Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), in
partnership with the Ministry's National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM).

u Odisha Urban Academy is the knowledge partner.

u This campaign celebrates "Jal Diwali" and commences from, 7th November,
2023. It will continue till 9th November, 2023.

u The campaign aims to provide a platform for inclusion of women in water


governance. They will be given first-hand knowledge about water treatment
processes through visits to Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) in their respective cities.
COLORS Joins Forces To Support The ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’
Initiative/कलस$ 'बेट* बचाओ, बेट* पढ़ाओ' पहल का समथ$न करने के 6लए

The entertainment channel COLORS has
collaborated with the Ministry of Women and
Child Development to support the Beti Bachao,
Beti Padhao initiative.

The collaboration will help to raise awareness


around girl child abandonment through their
latest show Doree.

The Ministry said, television as a medium has


played a huge role in holding a mirror to society
and led to many women becoming agents of
change.
u Raise awareness of our Child Helpline Number 1098 amongst
viewers and provide the much-needed popular support to this
initiative.

u BBBP Scheme:
u It was launched in January 2015 with the aim to address sex
selective abortion and the declining child sex ratio which was
at 918 girls for every 1,000 boys in 2011.

u This is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Women and Child


Development, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and
Ministry of Human Resource Development.
‘Surat’ Becomes The First Navy Warship To Be Named After A
City in Gujarat/'सरू त' गज
ु रात के एक शहर के नाम पर रखा जाने वाला

The crest of the Indian Navy's latest warship 'Surat' will be unveiled by
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

This is the first warship to be named after a city of Gujarat and this is also the
first time the unveiling of the crest of a warship is being undertaken in the
very city after which it has been named

This tribute is significant because Surat has a remarkable maritime heritage.


During the 16th to the 18th century, Surat was a thriving center for maritime
trade and shipbuilding activities.
u ‘Surat’ is part of the ‘Project 15B‘ program, which involves the
construction of four next-generation stealth guided missile
destroyers. It is the fourth and final ship in this program.

u In 2011, the deal to build four warships -- Visakhapatnam,


Mormugao, Imphal, and Surat -- was signed under the Project-
15B programme

u These ships are equipped with BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles


and long-range Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAM).
State Food Safety Index
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India
(FSSAI) recently released the State Food Safety
Index (SFSI) 2022-2023, which assesses the
performance of Indian states and union territories in
ensuring food safety.

The latest index introduced a new parameter,


‘Improvement in SFSI Rank,’ altering the weights of
existing parameters and shedding light on states’
progress over the previous year.

SFSI was started in 2018-19 to create a competitive


and positive change in the food safety ecosystem
in the country.
u Tamil Nadu emerged as the leading state in consumer
empowering initiatives, followed by Kerala and Madhya
Pradesh.

u Gujarat and Kerala were the top performers in Food testing


category, while Andhra Pradesh performed the worst.

u In the new parameter 'Improvement in SFSI Rank,' only Punjab


showed significant improvement.

The First Australia India Education and Skill Council
(AIESC) meeting is being held at IIT
Gandhinagar,Gujarat.

AIESC is a bi-national body established in 2011 to


guide the strategic direction of the education and
research partnerships between the two countries.

Aim: To provide a platform for academic and skill


experts to discuss a wide range of mutually agreed
priorities, with the ultimate aim of shaping the future
of education and skilling in both our nations.
Protection Of Women From Domestic Violence Act, 2005:
The Supreme Court recently agreed to examine whether a transgender
woman can claim maintenance under the Protection of Women from
Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (DV Act).

The DV Act was enacted by Parliament on September 13, 2005, and extends
to the whole of India.

It is basically meant to provide protection to a wife or female live-in partner


from violence at the hands of the husband, a male live-in-partner, or his
relatives.

Domestic violence under the Act includes actual abuse or the threat of
abuse, whether physical, sexual, verbal, emotional, or economic.

Harassment by way of dowry demands is also covered under the definition of


domestic violence.The Act covers all women who may be mother, sister, wife,
widow, or partners living in a shared household.

The full termination of major infrastructure projects under the Belt and
Road Initiative has been announced by the Philippine Department of
Transportation in favour of competitors from the West and Japan.

The Belt and Road Initiative, known within China as the One Belt One
Road is a global infrastructure development strategy adopted by the
Chinese government in 2013 to invest in more than 150 countries and
international organizations.
