TB801 assessment strategy

The assessment for TB801 comprises three tutor-marked assignments (TMAs) and an
end-of-module-assessment (EMA) in the form of a case study. Table 1.1 shows the
weightings for the assessments.

Table 1.1 Weightings for TB801

assessments

TMA/EMA Weighting
assessments

TMA 01 10%

TMA 02 15%

TMA 03 15%

EMA 60%

TMAs make up 40% of the overall assessment score of the module. The EMA makes up
the other 60% of the overall mark for TB801. Your grade is based on the addition of marks
achieved on TMAs 01, 02 and 03 and the EMA. This constitutes your overall module
score.
To be sure of passing, you need to achieve an overall module score of at least 50% and
submit your EMA.
If you achieve an overall module score of at least 30% and submit your EMA, but do not
achieve the 50% pass mark, you will be given one opportunity to resubmit your EMA.
If, after one resubmission you do not achieve an overall module score of at least 50%, you
will fail the module. If you resubmit the EMA and pass, your module result will be capped
at the lowest grade of Pass.
The substitution rule does not apply to the TMAs in TB801.
Assessment banking is permitted on TB801.
Please see the Assessment Policies for details of University policy on assessment.
No extensions are allowed for the EMA. The formal deadline is noon (UK local time) on
the cut-off date published on the TB801 module website. The Open University operates a
12-hour grace period, which means that an EMA received no later than 23:59 hrs (UK
local time) on the published submission date will be considered to have been received on
time. An EMA submitted up to 24 hours after the end of the grace period (00:00 hrs to
23:59 hrs on the day after the cut-off), i.e. in the 24-hour penalty period, will be accepted
for marking with a deduction of up to 10 percentage points as a mark penalty for late
submission. Further information is available in Section 3 of the End-of-Module
Assessment (EMA) Policy available on the Assessment Policies page.
This module is fully graded and details of how to convert your overall score to a grade are
provided in the Assessment Policies.
You can choose to defer completion of your module. If you wish to delay submitting your
EMA, you may be able to deregister and then register on the next available start date to
complete your module. If you wish to defer your study, see the Assessment Policies for
more information about deferral.
If you cannot submit the EMA due to circumstances which are beyond your control, such
as serious illness or bereavement, you may be permitted to postpone your submission to

the next available opportunity. This process is called discretionary postponement and
strict eligibility criteria apply. You will need to provide third party documentary evidence of
the circumstances which are preventing you from submitting the EMA. See the
Assessment Policies for more information. If you wish to postpone you will need to
complete the online discretionary postponement form.
If you do not submit your EMA, and have not been granted a discretionary postponement
or deferred the module, you will not be given another opportunity to submit your EMA, so
you will fail the module.
