Deflection of beam

1. A propped cantilever beam carries a uniformly distributed load of 4 kips/ft over its
entire length, as shown in Figure a. Using the moment-area method, determine the
slope at A and the deflection at A.

2. In the below structure, find the magnitude and location of maximum deflection and
slope below both point loads. Take E = 20700 MPa and I = 1010 mm4

3. The beam shown in the following Figure has a flexural rigidity, EI of 1.4 x 104 KNm2.

a) Derive the expression of deflection

b) Determine the position and magnitude of Maximum deflection

4. The beam shown in the following Figure has a flexural rigidity, EI of 425 x 1012
Nmm2. Calculate the deflection at a point B and at point D using Macauley’s method.

5. In the below structure, find the slope of beam at point A and also find the magnitude
andlocation of maximum deflection. Take EI = 150 ×1012 Nmm2
6. Find the maximum deflection on the beam shown below

7. By double integration method, Macaulay’s method, determine the maximum

deflection of the simply supported beam and beam section shown if
E = 200,000 MPa

8. By double integration method, moment-area method and Macaulay’s method, find the
slope and deflection at point of 50kN concentrated load, and at Midspan and also
determine the maximum deflection.
Take E = 200,000 MPa

Complex stress
13. Using the analytical method, Find the normal and tangential stresses, the principal
stress, maximum shear stress on the plane P-P for the plane stress system shown in
Fig.below. Show the stresses on the plane.

14. In each of the cases of the plane stress systems shown in Fig. below, draw a Mohr's
circle and find the stresses on planes whose normal is inclined at + 20",- 30", and +
60" to the X-axis. What will be the stresses on the planes at right angles to the planes
indicated?

15. Find the principal stresses for the case shown below and the position of the principal
plane Using the analytical and graphical method.
16. A piece of elastic material has direct stresses of 80 MPa tensile and 40 MPa
compressive on two mutually perpendicular planes. A clockwise shear stress acts on
the plane with the 80 MPa stress and an equal and opposite complementary shear stress
acts on the other plane. The maximum principal stress in the material is 100 MPa
tensile.
Construct Mohrs' circle of stress and determine the following.
i. The maximum shear stress.
ii. The minimum principal stress.
iii. The position of the principal planes.
17. For the state of plane stress shown in the figure:
Using the analytical and graphical method (the Mohr’s circle), determine
i) the normal and shear stress on the inclined plane
ii) The maximum shear stress.
iii) The minimum principal stress.
iv) The position of the principal planes.

18. An element subjected to a plane stress system has the stresses ox=-40 MPa, oy=+ 80
MPa, and 𝜏x = 20 MPa. Draw a Mohr's circle and determine
(i) the stresses on a plane whose normal is inclined at - 30" to the X-axis, and
(ii) the principal stresses and directions.
