Introduction
A linear function is a function whose graph is a straight line. It can be
represented by the following equation:

y = mx + b

where:

y is the dependent variable

x is the independent variable

m is the slope of the line

b is the y-intercept

The slope of the line tells you how steep the line is. A positive slope means that
the line is increasing as you move from left to right. A negative slope means
that the line is decreasing as you move from left to right. A slope of 0 means
that the line is horizontal.

The y-intercept of the line is the point where the line crosses the y-axis.

Here are some examples of linear functions:

The relationship between the distance traveled by an object and the time it
takes to travel that distance (constant velocity)

The relationship between the force applied to an object and its acceleration
(Newton's second law of motion)

The relationship between the voltage applied to a resistor and the current
flowing through it (Ohm's law)

The relationship between the temperature of a gas and its volume (Boyle's law)

Linear functions are very important in mathematics and science, and they have
a wide range of applications in engineering and other fields.
Linear Functions and Its Applications in Engineering Programs
Here are some specific examples of how linear functions are used in
engineering programs:
