1-PROPOSED PROBLEM

Our objective of this practice is to carry out sound measurements in different points
of the school using a sound level meter.

2- THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE

2.1- Sound lever meter parts

3-TOOLS NEEDED

- Sound level meter

-Data collection table and calculator

4-PARTICULAR RULES

Being absent or moving from the job without justification, not knowing
what to do, not delivering the material on time... It is penalice with a
zero at work

5- PROCEDURE

In each of the three measurement sessions we will divide the time into
two moments 1- Taking measurements (ten minutes)
2- Work on computers making the report
6- ANALYSIS O THE RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS

1- Complete the following table and calculate the result of each

measurement, taking into account the precision of the sound level
meter. In your report, you have to include all the necessary calculations.
2- Indicate (using a table) typical noise levels in normal situations

(A-weighted)

3- Based on the results obtained in question 1, and the data shown in question 2,
compare the results obtained, indicate whether they are acceptable, and indicate
three improvement proposals to reduce noise in your school study zone.
CLASS TIME

-On day one, during class time, there was the highest measurement, which was
78.76 Dba, which is more or less equivalent to the noise of an office or a garbage
truck. This data exceeds 14 decibels recommended by the OMS

- The second day during class time there was 53.7dBA, which was the lowest
measurement and is equivalent to a conversation between two people, so they are
not decibels that are harmful to health

- The third day in class somewhat reflects the average between day one and day
two, and it was 66.8dBA, which is between a conversation between two people and
a vacuum cleaner. This data exceeds only 2 decibels of what is recommended.

DURING THE BREAK

-Day one and two are quite even, since the first day I scored 69.93dBA and the
second day 68.5, exceeding 5dBA as recommended and equal to the noise of a
vacuum cleaner.

- The third day was the highest measurement during the patio, which was 72dBA,
exceeding the recommended 7dBA and almost equaling the noise of a vacuum
cleaner.

GO UP TO CLASS

-The first and third days are very similar data since the first marks 60.73dBA and the
third 61.8Dba. Both are between the correct decibel measurements and would be
like a conversation between two people or a vacuum cleaner.

-However, the second day it rises to 72dBA, already being harmful and equaling the
noise of a vacuum cleaner.

SOLUTIONS
We believe that during the playground there is no way to change the results since it
is a moment of rest in which we get together with friends and talk, play... But
nevertheless when we mediated in the class hours there was a lot of noise because
the primary students went up to class or ran down to the patio, shouting...

For this reason, we believe that the best way to solve it within the building is through
sunrises or tutorials where the numerous damages that noise creates to our health
are explained and thus create awareness that exceeding the recommended
decibels can be very harmful to our health.
4- What effects can noise have on health?

Noise has an impact on our health, affecting the level of concentration in our activities, the quality
of our sleep, our hearing ability, our ability to communicate, and it can have physical impacts such
as increased blood pressure or stress hormones.

7- POSSIBLE ERRORS

If we had to repeat the practice, we would be more aware that when going to
measure during the patio, the time would not coincide with the end of the patio.

8- EXTRA INFORMATION

DOES NOISE AFFECT A PREGNANCY?

We asked ourselves this question during the documentary, since they gave several
examples of real cases of problems suffered by people who deal with noise on a
daily basis. But not if this noise could affect a baby and after searching it turns out
that if the pregnant woman is faced with continuous exposure to noise of more than
100dB, the baby is at risk of hearing problems, presenting deficits, hearing or
attention and even hyperactivity. They can also increase the chances that labor will
occur and the baby will be born with less weight than it should.

If the exposure is occasional, to sounds between 150 – 155 dB, for example, when
a plane takes off, the consequences can be similar.
LIVING EXPOSED TO A LOT OF NOISE IS BAD. BUT EXPOSE YOURSELF TO
ABSOLUTE SILENCE?

Well, it turns out that the human being is not able to bear absolute silence. It seems
that when the sound in a room is completely eliminated, the human ear does
everything possible to locate a sound source, which makes his own body become
the generator of all the sound in the room. Thus, those who have lived the
experience of staying in an anechoic chamber for a long time begin to hear the
sounds of their breathing, the beating of their heart and even their guts, which can
lead the mind to madness. Or that you can lose control and can even cause balance
effects. The maximum supported by one person was 45 minutes.
