In this slide, the facilities are mapped to an ODU as part of the provisioning process. The lower order
ODUs (ODUj) are again multiplexed into the higher order ODUs (ODUk) with ODUk being the highest
order. Notice, however that the capacity is dramatically different.
Slots 1-7 and 10-16 contain optional switching modules such as OSM-1S, OSM-2S, OSM-2C or blank
filler modules.
Slots 21 and 28 may contain SEIMs (Shelf Ethernet Interface Modules) or SFMs (Shelf Filler Module).
Slot 22 may contain an SAIM (Shelf Alarm Interface Module) or an SFM (Shelf Filler Module).
While the Coriant mTera system is running, configuration information, run time data, and other files are
constantly synchronized from the active to the standby STPM card. In the event of a failure for the
active card, the standby card will become active and take over all STPM functions the previously active
card had taken, allowing continuous control and full NE functionality.
Switching from the active to the standby card can be done either manually by the operator or
automatically in case of failure.
The STPM controls the fan speed, retrieves the fan status, and retrieves the fan filter status for the fan
module within the shelf. Fans run “fast” when one or the more of the fans fail or are not powered.
If both STPMs are removed after the system has been turned up, the fans in that shelf run on high until
system software has been basic commissioned. The fans return to normal operation after the STPMs
are reinserted and the system software is initialized (can take up to 10 minutes from the time of
insertion)
Every Shelf requires a Shelf Display Module (SDM). There are two versions of the SDM, the 80.71C-
MSDM which came as part of the revision A shelf and the 81.71C-MSDM which is a stand alone
required module for use with shelves at revision B or later.
The 81.71C-MSDM is field replaceable but cannot be used to replace the 80.71C-MSDM. The SDM
controls and is directly connected to the NE Alarm Panel.
1. The MFAB provides cell-based switching between port modules in the mTera shelf. Switched port
modules, in conjunction with all operational MFABs in the mTera shelf, create a cell-based, load shared,
service-independent packet switch fabric. The switch fabric is non-blocking.
2. The NE automatically creates six MFAB modules in the administratively out-of-service state when an
mTera shelf is created. The NE automatically sets an MFAB to the in-service state when it is initially
discovered. The MFAB modules cannot be deleted from the shelf.
Two STPMs are required for redundancy. The common modules in slots 21-23, 26-28 and 33 load
share power distributed from the equipped STPMs (slot 24 and 25).
Zone 1 powers four port modules (slots 1-4), two MFABs (slots 8 and 9), one STPM/Common (slot
24), and two Fan modules (slots 29 and 30). The mTera UTP power terminals 1A and 1B supply
power to zone 1.
Zone 2 powers four port modules (slots 5, 6, 7 and 16), two MFABs (slots 17 and 18), one
STPM/Common (slot 25) and two Fan modules (slots 31 and 32). The mTera UTP power terminals
2A and 2B supply power to zone 2.
Zone 3 powers six Port modules (slots 10-15) and two MFABs (slots 19 and 20). The mTera UTP
power terminals 3A and 3B supply power to zone 3.
