Laboratory Exercise
Device Manager
Objectives:

At the end of the exercise, the students should be able to:

 Identify the different devices a computer system has;

 Identify each hardware manufacturer and its location; and
 Identify the functions of Device Manager.

Material:

 Computer with pre-installed Windows 10 and full administrator access

Basic Principles:

The Device Manager is an extension of the Microsoft Management Console. It provides a central and organized view of
all the Microsoft Windows’ recognized hardware installed in a computer. As the name implies, it is used for managing
hardware devices installed in a computer such as hard disk drives, keyboards, sound cards, USB devices, etc. It can also
be used for changing hardware configuration options, managing drivers, disabling and enabling hardware, identifying
conflicts between hardware devices, and much more.

Procedures:

1. In order to navigate to Device Manager, Click Start > Settings. Enter “device manager” in the text field.
Then, click Device Manager.
2. List at least 15 devices including their information in the following table.

Device Name Manufacturer Location Device Status
