§NICOLASA PONTE DE PERFECTO

(1880-1967)
- Born in the Partido district of Camarines Sur in
1880.
- She run the patriarch’s Imprenta y Liberia
Mariana, including its branch in Iloilo, and
became very wealthy.
§She was credited by Maria Lilia F.
Realubit for writing in the 3 genres of
drama, short story and poetry.
§She wrote the zarzuela, An Maimbud
na Aqui(The Gentle Child) of drama,
short story and poetry.
MARIA LILIA F. REALUBIT
§recipient of the national award “Alagad ni
Balagtas” by the Unyon ng Mga Manunulat
sa Pilipinas and is a National Book
Awardee (1987) for her book “Philippine
Drama: Twelve Plays in Six Regional
Languages”.
§She wrote the first book on Bikol
history and literature: “Bikols of the
Philippines.”
§ She teaches English and Comparative
Literature at the University of the
Philippines.
PAZ CEA DE CONDE (1896-1979)
§ Born in Tigaon, Camarines Sur on 21 January 1896.
§ She wrote Bicolandia, and Heraldo Bikol, and nationally
La Vanguardia (The Vanguard) and the Philippine Free
Press.
§ First few women to be elected to public office when
the Women’s Suffrage Law came into effect in 1937.
LUIS CABALQUINTO
§He is the author of numerous
collections of poetry, including
Mannahatta Mahal (2007),
Moon Over Magarao (2004),
Bridgeable Shores: Selected
Poems (2001), and The Dog-
Eater & Other Poems (1989).
§Cabalquinto writes in
English, Filipino, and Bikol.
His first collection in Bikol,
Tignarakol (2013), was
published by Ateneo de
Naga University Press.
§ Cabalquinto is the recipient of many
honors and awards, including a
Balagtas Award from the Writers’ Union
of the Philippines, a Dylan Thomas
Poetry Award from the New School, an
Academy of American Poets Poetry
Award, and a Writing Fellowship Award
from the New York Foundation for the
Arts. He lives in New York City and the
Philippines.
ANGELA MANALANG-GLORIA
- Born in Pampanga in August 2 1907
and moved to Tabaco with her family.
- her works are To a Mestiza, 1927, a
salute to a friend she meets in the
willowy glimmer of a Bicol pool
- Bicol serves as a backdrop and a
source for lyrical imagery in some of
her poems
§wrote Virac in 1935, depict hurricanes in
Masbate and Catanduanes
§Mayon Afternoon in 1937, is a reflection in
the shade of Mayon Volcano.
§On the Bicol Express,” 1940, contains
scenes of forest and waterfalls from a
coach of the Bikol Express train
§ABDON BALDE JR.
- an award-winning Filipino
novelist. He has written and
published short stories, poems
and novels in English, Tagalog
and the languages of Bicol.
§first short story, Milagro sa Aming
Nayon was published in Liwayway
magazine way back in 1961, when
he was only 16 years old. Then a
y e a r a f t e r, i t w a s f o l l o w e d
by Kuwento ng Isang Pag-ibig, now
part of college textbooks.
§His first book, Mga Pangarap at
Pangitain, a collection of 14 short
stories written over four decades,
was published in 2001
§KRISTIAN CORDERO
- p o e t , f i c t i o n i s t , t r a n s l a t o r, a n d
filmmaker based in Bikol.
- His books of poetry in three Philippine
languages have won the Madrigal-
Gonzales Best First Book Award, the
Philippine National Book Awards, and
the Gintong Aklat Awards (Golden
Book Awards).
His most recent collections are
Canticos: Apat Na Boses (UST
Publishing House, 2013) and Labi
(Ateneo de Manila University Press,
2013). In 2011, he published his
translation of selected poetry of
Rainier Maria Rilke, Minatubod
Ako Sa Diklom ( I Have Faith in the
Night) published by Ateneo de Naga
University Press.
AIDA CIRUJALES
§ born July 5, 1952 in Tiwi, Albay, is a
retired Bicolana public school teacher,
writer of tigsik, poem, poetic debate, Bikol
debate, oration and songwriter.
§ She is also known as "Tigsik Queen"in
Camarines Sur. She taught at Gainza
Central School until her retirement.
§She is the author of the book
Tigsik published by the National
Commission for Culture and the
Arts (NCCA) in 2008.
§Cirujales is a member of Sumaro
Bikolnon and Parasurat Bikolnon,
two cultural organizations in
Camarines Sur.
§ She became a panelist of Premio Tomas
Arejola for Bicol Literature year 2007.

§ Also a resident tigsik writer in Bikol Daily,


Bicol Mail for the program "Sa Pagtabang
Sana" in DZGE-Canaman, Camarines Sur,
poetry and Bikol debate for the program
"Taragboan" in the same station. Today,
several of her writings can be read at the
Bicol Standard-Bicol News.

- Born in Camalig, Albay on March 6 1923
- Writer of poems in Weekly Women’s
Magazine in 1950’s, Shaken Shadows in 1996
and This Season and Night.
§Alejandria, Clemente Bulocon
- from Canaman, Camarines Sur born on Nov.
23, 1895
- a poet and a playwright
- One of the writers of Samahang Bikol,
Darorroaggoyog (Just Hum to Yourself) 1927
and Madaling Isip (In Short)
- Also wrote the script for the play Prinsipe
Lizardo and Prinsipe Fernando
- Won second prize on 1926 for translating Mi
Ultimo Adios of Dr. Jose Rizal.
§ARRIETA, NICOLAS SERRANO
– from Camagong, Oas, Albay; born on
December 6, 1862
- Two of his novels are “An Dahas ni
Pagcamoot o Duang Puso” (The Power of
Love in Two Hearts) and “An Agos na
Magtood” (Go With the Flow)
- he also write the“Zarzuela Bicolana” (Bicol
Sarswela), “An Marhay na Sorsogon” (The
Good Sorsogon), “Pantinople y Adriana”
(Pantinople and Adriana), and “Orontis”
(Orientas)
§BOBIS, MERLINDA CARULLO
– from Tabaco, Albay; born on November 25,
1959
- She wrote the “Kantada ng Babaeng
Mandirigma” (daragang Magayon) an epic or
(Cantata of the Warrior Woman) in 1993.

- from Sangay, Camarines Sur born on
October 11, 1889
- A writer of Bicol and Spanish language
- His writings are: “Maski Nanok ang
Pagtorog Ko” (Though Fast Asleep)

- “An Pana” (The Arrow)

• was the fifth Governor of Ambos

considered as the "Father of

§Potenciano “Poten” Valladolid Gregorio
Sr. (May 19, 1880 – February 22, 1939)
- A Bicolano musician who composed the
song “Sarong Banngi”
- Other composition of him are “Pusong
Tagob nin sakit” and “Hinoyop-hoyop nin
Diyos.”
§Maryann Moll
- From Tigaon, in the Partido district of
Camarines Sur, and has lived and studied in
Naga City.
- Her books are Awakenings (2001), Little
Freedoms (2005), which was published by
the NCCA as part of the Ubod New Author
Series and Married Women (2011 or 2013),
finalist, National Book Awards.
§Marissa Reorizo-Redburn
- Was born and raised in a remote town of a
sub-island of an island province at the
margins of a peripheral region, San Pascual,
Burias, Masbate.
- Formerly a teacher and now an entrepreneur,
she writes poems and short fiction in Bicol.
- At present she resides in Naga City.
§Jaime Jesus Borlagdan
- Lives in Tabaco City, Albay.
- The author of Maynila: Libro ng
Pobya (Tagalog Poetry) and
Que Lugar Este kan Dayo sa
sadiring Banwa (Bikol poetry.)
- He is also a singer songwriter
and guitarist of Krear Bathala
and Bandang Ako Kalag.
- He is the secretary of the cultural group An
Banwa: Kultura buda Artes kan Tabaco Inc.,
and founder and facilitator of TAWO: Tabaco
Writer’s Workshop.
- He is currently a volunteer of Haribol Bikol.
§VICTOR DENNIS T. NIERVA
- A leading poet and translator in the Bikol
region.
- His books are Antisipasyon, 2007 National
Book Award for Poetry, now in its second
edition and Doros asin Anghel, translations
of John Donne’s Holy Sonnets which won the
2013 National Book Award for Translated
Book.
§OMAR AGUILAR
- Faculty of the Department of Digital Arts and
Computer Animation (DACA) of the Ateneo de
Naga University (AdNU)
- Graduated BS Digital Illustration and
Animation degree in 2005 and Master of
Computer Graphics and Animation in 2014.
- His music video “Agrabyado” created during
his college years, won Best Experimental

- He also lead a team to produce “Goat it” and
“The Man Who Wanted to Fly” , both of
which won the 2005 Animazing Shorts
Competition.
- He was the recipient of a special training in
3D animation and the Philippine
representative to the First International
Digital Media Meeting in Paris in 2005.
- He was named Outstanding Emerging Artist
in Animation Awardee for 2014 in the
Animahenasyon 2014 – The 8th Philippine
Animation Festival.
- He was also given the Leon Aureus Award in
Naga City’s Mayoral Awards in 2015 (DBISI).
