Committee: UN free and equal

Country: Switzerland

Delegate: Irlanda Franco Ruiz

Topic a: The role of education in promoting LGBTQ+ equality

Switzerland, a nation known for its commitment to human rights, equality and neutrality,
appears before the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee to address the pressing
issue of "The role of education in promoting LGBTQ+ equality." The Swiss delegation
recognizes the importance of fostering an inclusive society that respects the rights and
dignity of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Context:
Switzerland firmly believes in the principles of non-discrimination and equal opportunities for
all citizens. The Swiss constitution prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and
gender identity, reflecting the country's dedication to protecting the rights of LGBTQ+ people.
In recent years, Switzerland has taken steps to promote inclusion in its education system,
emphasizing the need for an environment that respects diversity.

Education plays a vital role in shaping attitudes and fostering understanding between
people. Switzerland recognizes that inclusive education, covering LGBTQ+ issues, is
essential to creating a society that embraces diversity. By incorporating LGBTQ+
perspectives into curricula, we aim to dismantle stereotypes, reduce prejudice, and promote
a culture of acceptance.

Switzerland supports the implementation of comprehensive sexuality education that includes

information on sexual orientation and gender identity. By providing accurate, age-appropriate
information, we empower students to develop a respectful and informed understanding of
diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. This education is essential to combat
discrimination and promote empathy.
Teacher training and professional development:
To ensure the effective provision of LGBTQ+ inclusive education, Switzerland emphasizes
the importance of teacher training and professional development programs. Educators
must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to create a safe and supportive learning
environment for all students, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Fight harassment and discrimination:

Switzerland recognizes the prevalence of harassment and discrimination based on sexual
orientation and gender identity in educational settings. To address this issue, we advocate
for the implementation of anti-harassment programs that specifically target LGBTQ+
discrimination. These programs should raise awareness, provide support to victims, and
promote a culture of respect among students.

Collaboration:

Switzerland recognizes that promoting LGBTQ+ equality requires a global effort. We

encourage international collaboration and information sharing among member states to
develop best practices and strategies for implementing LGBTQ+ inclusive education. By
learning from the experiences of others, we can work collectively to create more inclusive
societies.

In conclusion, Switzerland firmly believes that education is a powerful tool to promote

LGBTQ+ equality. By integrating inclusive practices into our educational systems, we can
cultivate a society that celebrates diversity, fosters understanding, and respects the rights of
all individuals. Switzerland is ready to collaborate with other member states to promote the
cause of LGBTQ+ equality on the international stage.
