Chemical Bond Formation

MYP-3
Chemical Bonds-Introduction

When atoms are attracted to each other and join together

to form a molecule, we call the connection between each
atom a chemical bond. The bond “holds together” the
atoms in the molecule, ion, or crystal.

Chemical bonding is the attraction between two or more

atoms that allows them to be able to form a stable
Chemical Compound.
Chemical Bonds Types:
The chemical bond that occurs between molecules
can be of following types.

We will focus on ionic and covalent bonds.

Chemical Bonds-Ionic
Investigating-Formation of NaCl
Chemical Bonds-Covalent

This type of compound is formed due to the intermolecular attraction. The chemical compounds that are
formed as a result of sharing of electrons are known as Covalent compounds.

Polar and Non Polar Covalent Bonds:
Polar Covalent Bonds: The electron
pair is not shared equally. One of the
element taking part in bond
formation pulls electron towards
itself

Non-Polar Covalent Bonds:The

electron pair is shared equally
