Statement of Purpose

International law to me, in its truest sense, involves an analytical tryst with the deepest roots of a
country’s policy and understanding the nuances and intricacies involved in drafting it at a global
stage. It is at this ground level I am passionate about learning, as it has been an object of fascination
for me ever since 8th grade when I began my first stint with Model United Nations.

This Statement of Purpose will attempt to explain my intrigue into being a member of the
International Cell in a two-fold manner- The first being what I seek to learn and gain as a member of
the cell and second, what I could potentially bring to the table within the ambit of past achievements,
interests, and future ambitions. From the cells’ description, what I have come to understand is that at
its very core, it intellectually stimulates its members as it offers an array of opportunities for
furthering their academic horizons. This would help me shape my priorities with regard to my areas of
interest, which have been in the arena of International Humanitarian Law vis-à-vis armed conflicts in
particular and, exponentially hone my skills related to the same. The initiatives taken up by the cell
truly resonated with me, all of them were conducted with the purpose of widening our pool of
knowledge.

Right from the onset of Law School, one of the basic principles we’ve been taught is that the robust
legal system the country has enshrined and delivering justice to thousands every day is the
amalgamation of various other provisions of nations that wish to deliver the finest legal remedies to
their citizens. The import of ideologies from the United Kingdom, France, and Japan has given birth
to what is regarded as the guiding document of the largest democracy in the world. My affinity for
international law began the day I discovered the fact, that it is through the collaboration of principles
enacted in different countries other than our own that we must focus on to achieve the highest level of
enabling justice in all realms. Another engrossing factor that captured my interest is the field of
economics and finance from the international perspective, which I wish to be acquainted with keeping
in mind the implications it plays in shaping policies.

With respect to my contributions to the Cell, right from high school, I have been involved with
research and content development in some form, as the prospect of delving deeper than just acquiring
surface-level knowledge always excited me. After participating, judging, and winning accolades at
eleven Model United Nations, in addition to serving as a Secretary-General, I believe I have acquired
a standard of knowledge that would allow me to contribute positively to the flagship event of the cell,
the SLSP-MUN. Another role that shaped me was the one where I was part of a case study that was
presented to the National Convention on Quality Concepts. It involved collecting data, interpreting it,
and collaborating with my peers and professors for input for over two months and that is one
experience I would always cherish. Additionally, I was the Head of Content and Research at a non-
profit organization that aided me immensely in developing my skills- be it in brainstorming ideas and
working efficiently with a group I have been learning how to articulate and present information in a
concise manner.

Overall, I would say the skills I have acquired over the years, coupled with my ardent desire to learn
anything related to international policy and law would ensure I will always strive to commit to
whatever role I have to function in as a member, as this is one place where I could make optimum
utilization of my capabilities. Being a part of such a cell I hope to contribute in pursuit of knowledge
and ideas and learn from people who have amassed commendable experience in their respective fields
which would shape my thoughts and individuality.
