AdBlue Nozzle Cleaning (SOP) Status : 10.2021
Page : 1/4
Scope
This document describes the procedure for nozzle cleaning, only if the concern is narrowed down to
Nozzle blockage as per the TST procedure.
Process Description
This procedure is followed if the trouble shooting indicates high AdBlue pressure, high Air pressure,
purging failure which could lead to rationality error neglecting other factors in the system.
The above said failure mode could happen if,
1. Bad quality of the AdBlue used.
2. Blockage due to crystallisation of AdBlue (i.e., Improper Purging).
3. Foreign materials (Rust/Debris) got struck at the tip of the nozzle from exhaust gas.
4. Other unknown factors (Unidentified particles).
Procedure:
Follow Removal & Re – fitment (R&R) procedure for the nozzle assembly OP_AS17 document.

Cleaning Procedure:
• Ensure to remove all the protective caps & stickers from the nozzle if any.
• Take the one-piece nozzle and visually inspect for any blockage at Air IN (1), Urea IN (2) &
Air/Urea Out (3) as shown below.

• Ensure to clean all the visibly removable dust by cleaning with compressed air.
• Take a clean utensil with no scaling on the walls and boil the clean water till the bubbles are
observed.
• Immerse the one-piece nozzle into the boiling water and continue the heating for a minimum
of 7 minutes.

steel)
• The above step would help in dissolving the hard blockage of the urea crystals.
• Stop the heater and remove the one-piece nozzle with the help of tongs and allow the nozzle
to cool in a clean environment.

• After the nozzle is cooled, blow the pressurised air with a Ф6mm air hose from the tip of the
nozzle as shown below.
(Note: ALB does not recommend to blow the pressurised air from the inlet side. As it could lead to
any possibility of dust/dirt getting stuck at the tip of the nozzle from inside).
Note: If the blockage is hard and still not cleared with the above cleaning steps, please follow the be-
low procedure.
Please follow this procedure only if hard urea crystals (Biuret) clogging is there in the nozzle.
This procedure can be performed to clear the hard urea crystals (Biuret) in the nozzle by heating the
nozzle tip in direct flame at specified time.

Procedure:
• Take the one-piece nozzle with a tong and start heating the nozzle from the tip in naked flame
of the burner as shown below.

• Continue the heating of the nozzle for a minimum of 8 minutes and maximum of 10 minutes
for effective cleaning.
• Take the heated nozzle and cooling it with clean tap water over the nozzle surface as shown
below.
• Blow pressurised air (7-8 bar) from the tip of the nozzle.
Follow Removal & Re – fitment (R&R) procedure for the nozzle assembly OP_AS17 document.
