ROAD SAFETY Vacuum tanker rollover incident

ALERT
What happened?
Vacuum tanker driver was on the way to Hawiyah
waste water disposal pond. The driver got distracted by
a phone call when the tanker suddenly moved to the
left side, which caused the rear tire of vacuum tanker
to run onto soft sand and rolled over.

Consequences:
● Property damage
● Potential of fatality or serious injury

Why did it happen?

• The driver was distracted by phone calls.

What should be done to prevent recurrence?

• Drivers shall not use mobile device while driving.
• Contractor shall conduct safe driving awareness sessions.

Areas where improvement is needed:
Drivers must:
● Not use any mobile device while driving.

Supervisors must:
● Monitor employees’ driving behavior and intervene, when required.
