ESL DEBATE

S : Statement
In our opinion, winning in a sports competition is one of the most important
things. Why? Because, sports is one of the fields where we can build ourselves
into physically and mentally strong minds and bodies. That’s because on the
field, it’s all about competition and sportsmanship. This is why many people
appreciate great athletes in the field of sports. Like any other field, those who
excel in sports deserve a thumbs up. Because achieving results requires long-
term hard work and great sacrifice.

E : Evidence
The large population is clearly an advantage for Indonesia. So many young or
productive people are developing. Especially in the field of sports. Indonesia
managed to field several young athletes who made the country proud. These
athletes are ready to carry out the heavy task of representing Indonesia in every
international event or competition. Our country is also called the Asian Tiger by
the world because of the many achievements of Indonesian athletes in the field

E : Explanation
If there is an athlete who succeeds in achieving the target, it because he or she
has indeed worked hard and tried to become a better athlete.
So, it can be concluded that competition will not only make an athlete gain
changes in physical abilities, but their character and personality will be fulfilled.
So, there are three benefits of competition for an athlete

1. Increased Ability to Overcome Obstacles

One of the characteristics of competition in sports is that an athlete will face
unexpected situations.
Well, this adaptability is what makes an athlete’s personality or character more
flexible both in the environment and where they are.
2. Prepare for disappointment
Success is not achieved in one day, month, or year. When an athlete is on the
podium, looking happy, it is the result of long hours of training.
In training, there is definitely pain, and possibly frustration. It is not uncommon
for an athlete to experience prolonged frustration.
Failure in competition makes them stronger and ready to face any adversity.

3. Get used to Not Giving Up

Achieving the best condition in everything including body condition, must be
passed with efforts that are not easy as mentioned above, namely the existence
of great fatigue.
As the competition get higher, it will increasingly shape the character of an
athlete for the better.
An athlete, for example, has a high sense of competition against other athletes.
They will be motivated to beat or be the best compared to other athletes.
