3 . In interrogatives, 都 dou works with the 嗎 ma question form but not with
A-not-A question forms. For example, to say 'Are you all surnamed Wang?',
one can say 你 們 都 姓 王 嗎 ? Nimen dou xing Wang ma? but not * 你 們 都 姓
不 姓 王 ? Nimen dou xing bu xing Wang?

4. When 都 dou is modified by 不 bu , the sentence means 'not all….', e.g., 他們 不 都
是 臺 灣 人 。 Tamen bu dou shi Taiwan ren. 'Not all of them are Taiwanese'.

When the number following 哪 頑 is 一 y 'i 'one', the number is often omitted.
For example, 哪 一 個 人 ? Na yi ge 成n ? 'which person?' is the same as 哪個
人 ? Nei ge 庫 ？ ．

Usage:
1. There are many measure words in Chinese. Different measure words are used
with different nouns. In this lesson, only two measure words are introduced.
亻圄 ge is the most frequently used measure word and is used as the measure for
many different nouns. 張 zhang is usually used with nouns that designate flat
obj ects such as paper, photographs, and tables. When learning a new noun, you
need to pay attention to the measure words that can be used with it.
