1.1 Introduction

Students put their academic abilities and knowledge to use by responding

to real-world issues in their communities through an instructional strategy known
as "service-learning." Students have a compelling reason to learn, are taught skills
for civic involvement, and are encouraged to develop a service ethic and a
sense of civic duty when they participate in service-learning. The students
participated in service learning that was conducted in a real community so that
they could practice communicating with one another and facing real-world
challenges, such as approaching the owner of a small business to offer them
assistance with their company. One of the educational endeavours that was
combined with others so that students may become familiar with their community
and communicate with its members was called service learning.
Students can obtain knowledge and enhance their skills in identifying
problems and finding solutions through participating in service learning, which in
turn has a positive impact not only on society but also on the students themselves.
In addition, the students will obtain valuable experience that they can put to use
in the future thanks to the activities.

Aside from that, the pupils are able to comprehend the requirements of the
assignment at hand and effectively plan how they will complete it within the
allotted amount of time. The students will also have the opportunity to develop
their communication skills by conducting an interview with the proprietor of the
company. Our group chose to targets the first semester diploma in logistic
management student in politeknik seberang perai.

Hence, politeknik seberang perai (PSP) has been selected as the place to
run this program by our group. politeknik seberang perai was created on 1st
September 1998 in the Jalan Permatang Pauh, Pulau Pinang. One hundred acres
were used for the construction of this complex. PSP is located in a fast-developing
industrial sector, and it takes around half an hour to drive here from Georgetown,
which is located on the island of Pulau Pinang.

This politeknik seberang perai, which will be Malaysia's 10th, is being

established in accordance with the policy of the Malaysian government to
develop semi-professional workers in order to accomplish the goals outlined in the
Malaysia 2020 Vision. PSP was officially introduced to the public on November 27,
1999, by Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who had previously served as the fourth
Prime Minister of Malaysia.
Full-time and part-time diploma programmes are available in the areas of
electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, commerce, and information
technology through PSP. Throughout this programme, logistic students are aimed
to have more social media accounts as well as an e-commerce platform to
expand their skills as “online platforms” have a big power in influencing people
nowadays.

1.2 Company’s Profile

2.0 PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION

Before

After we were given the task, we listed five places that were selected and
believed to give a positive response for us to run this learning service. Among the
five options that have been shortlisted by us are Changloon National School,
Changloon National Secondary School, Kedah Matriculation College, Tuanku
Syed Sirajuddin Perlis Polytechnic and Seberang Perai Penang Polytechnic. We
unanimously decided to choose Seberang Perai Penang Polytechnic because
two people from our group are alumni of Seberang Perai Penang Polytechnic.
Then we contact certain people to get approval to carry out this activity. For a
week we had no response from Seberang Perai Polytechnic. As we have
acquired permission for us to give a free service learning talk at Politeknik
Seberang Perai. One of their lecturer wanted us to give an educational talk
service about Fin-Tech Company in Malaysia, managing the financial, and E-
wallet for exposure to their students (semester 1). We classify the problem into
several points of view on why they (semester1 students) need to have exposure
to Fin-tech and digital finance.
During

On the morning of the set date, which is Tuesday, 7/6/2022, we arrived at

Seberang Perai Polytechnic. When we arrived there we were shown a hall that
had been arranged to provide service learning to selected students from
Seberang Perai Polytechnic. Unfortunately, the technical problem is the lack of
electronic goods such as the absence of HDMI wires, speaker connections and
others. While briefing the students, we found that the students found it difficult to
understand the content we presented because they were logistics students and
they were not exposed to anything related to banking. As a result of not
understanding the content, they began to show a lack of focus and not pay
attention to us. Some of them slept, chatted and played phone games. Students
also did not participate in the questions asked by us.

3.0 SOLUTION AND ACTIVITIES IMPLEMENTED

College students need to be aware of the features and benefits of their

individual banks' apps as a first step in understanding their finances. Therefore, as
a solution, we chose to explain the fundamental concepts in banks' apps, such
as how to create an online account. This is convenient since we don't have to
hurry to a location before it shuts or stand in line for transactions. To save them
time, it may also use the app for predetermined transactions. We begin by
introducing each bank and their offers, which are much the same, to introduce
the topic. access to financial services and many more tasks are available. In
addition to some usual applications that we use in our daily lives, we also offer
some new e-pockets apps. For instance, we gave them information about
shopback, which can be used to make purchases and collect cashbag
simultaneously, making it particularly advantageous for college students to spend
as pocket money. Finally, we explain to them the advantages of online banking,
including its convenience, capacity to establish automated bills for outine
application payments, 24/7 accessibility to banking services, and many others.

Many modern consumers know nothing about pricing ranges. In actuality,

a lack of awareness of money matters may also highlight why many students
struggle with saving and investing. Just over a third of respondents received four
or more correct answers out of a possible five on the most recent exam, indicating
severe economic illiteracy. The ability of students to manage their finances has
been hampered by several changes in consumer behavior and financial
products. We chose polytechnic students as our community since they may be
the only ones new to the fintech industry and because they need to understand
how to manage or budget their money. As a remedy, we intended to provide a
theoretical justification for budgeting, such as the importance of doing so and
the way we are able to reduce our fees in everyday foundation.

First, we separate the consultation into two parts, one of which is a virtual
scam and the other of which is a common fraud. In the first half, we'll cover how
some common scams operate and the results they have on victims, including
identity theft, money laundering, first-party fraud, and impostor rip-off. Scams
occur when outsiders target unwary individuals and deceive them in an effort to
unlawfully get money or private information. The second half of the session covers
digital fraud, including phishing, digital scams, bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and other
similar practices. We also develop a strategy to protect you from these kinds of
frauds.

3.1 Kahoot Session with the Students

To ensure that the students remembered our advice, we had decided to

administer a surprise test. We thus prepare a few inquiries regarding banks and
their offerings, some of which are slick and amusing. We utilized the highly popular
and exciting kahoot website for the quiz consultation. Basically, tests students to
get a better understanding of how well they grasp the material. Most of the
students good score and we gave some cash money as prize for the topper in
kahoot. Mostly by having these kind of quiz or games students remember what
we told them and easily registered in mind.

3.2 Make students to do their own Budget.

For this, we came up with a variety of solutions, such as forcing students to

create their own personal budgets based only on their costs. We make sure
college students understand that budgeting requires them to be aware of their
spending patterns. Therefore, we create a Google Sheet with a few essential
details that let the students recoup their costs in the proper area. Then we give
them some time to create a budget. They all did a fantastic job with their private
budgeting. In the end, I hope the students realize that by encouraging us to spend
our money wisely rather than worrying about where it is all going, it helps us stay
on top of things.

3.3 Make students to install True Caller app.

Then, for the scamming portion, we obviously had no plans, so we asked

whether anyone had ever been scammed previously. Thankfully, no one had
been. We then told our narrative. Then we encourage everyone to download the
real caller app, which was originally designed to let you know who was calling
but is now also used to aid loved ones and fight crime. Additionally, this
programme offers features for caller ID, name blocking, flash messaging, name
recording, chat, and voice over the Internet. As a result, it's easy for us to identify
who is calling, and it also indicates whether the person phoning has a history of
scams or junk mail. Most students installed the app as soon as we made them
aware of it, and several of them thanked us for lettin

4.0 PROJECT OUTCOME

4.1 Outcome For PSP’s Students

Diploma students mainly are in a transition phase from teenagers to being

young adult. As majority of them are in the age ranking from 18 to 23 years old.
Hence, as they are in the phase of young adult and learning into being in the
adultery phase. Thus, every students need to learn managing many things on their
own and should be exposed with the prominence of financial management that
begins with their life in tertier education.

First and foremost, students know that they need to manage their PTPTN
loan wisely in order to pay back their education loan easily. In Malaysia, the
National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) is the major source for
financing tertiary education. Based on our survey, majority of them are took the
PTPTN loan for their study. They know that they should fix their financial behaviours
concerning the fact that they will have to pay back that loan once they finish
their studies and start working.

Second, students also get to know that they are need to be able manage
their finance efficiently in order to prevent financial crises. Students have wide
resources of basic finance such as parents, PTPTN loans, business income and side
income from part time job. As wide as its availability, we tell and remind students
that they should utilise their money effieciently as to prevent excuses such as
inadequate capacity of money. Based on our survey, students’ are unaware of
the importance to manage their finance smartly also it was the reason of their
financial crisis. They fail to plan their expenditure which resulted to them
experiencing financial problems unexpectedly.

Third, students also know that they need to understand their financial
behaviour will affect their future. We remind that if current financial behaviour is
poor, there is no guarantee that it will be better in future if no action is taken.
Students need to have well financial behaviour since it will have an important
impact on their future life and personal well-being. In order to do so, we
encourage students to empower their financial planning. If we fail to plan, we
plan to fail. Students need to plan and budget their money on specific things with
priority by differentiate their needs and wants. This is due to the reason that poor
financial planning can lead to financial crisis which will affect students’ future if it
is not solved.

4.2 Outcome For Members Of Group 4

Throughout the service learning project's completion, we got to know and

learn a lot about :

1. Communication skills

Communication skills can be strengthened. We are required to understand

how to successfully interact with the involved parties such as the team members,
polytechnic’s lecturers, and especially PSP’s students of “A Day With Finance
programme.”

2. Teamwork skills

Throughout the service learning project's execution, we understand that

how to work in a team to achieve the programme objective and the assigned
assignment without dispute.
3. Management abilities skills

We got to be able to successfully manage time, plan, organize, and

coordinate activities to ensure the service learning programme are running
smoothly.

4. Problem-solving skills

The act of assessing, executing, and solving many difficulties may help us
to improve our problem-solving skills.

5. Finance knowledge and abilities skills

When confronted with the real-world financial difficulties, we need to study,

investigate, and do some assessment efficiently of financial strategies
management to help PSP’s students easy to understand our content and get the
knowledge to their applying for future life.
5.0 CONCLUSION

In conclusion, financial management practices are a field that deals with

financial decisions, such as the short-term and long-term objectives of the
students planning. Students should make an effort to learn how to handle their
finances since doing so may assist them in avoiding debt, saving money for the
future, and developing an investing plan. Students get the opportunity to clearly
define their financial objectives and learn how to efficiently manage their money.
