ASSIGNMENT# 2

How to critic an artwork

“The painter has the Universe in his mind and hands.” This is a quote from Leonardo da

Vinci, a painter of an art who has an endless amount of ideas in their mind, and with the help of

the artist’s hands, that idea can be made. Some of us see an art as just art, and some of us see an

art as a beautiful masterpiece that has a lot of emotions and meanings, but how can we appreciate

more about the story that an art has? We can critic an artwork to help us more understand the

meaning of a masterpiece, we can also use this to help us in our own artwork as an inspiration or

improvement. According to (Custom-Writing.org, n.d.) There are four (4) major steps to critic an

artwork description, analysis, interpretation, and judgment. Description is when you answer the

question “what” whether it is from title, shape, texture, color, and techniques. Analysis is when

you criticize by evaluating the artwork itself about how the elements interact with each other.

Interpretation is when you interpret the meaning behind the artwork whether it is giving you a

sad or a happy mood by looking at the artwork. And last is Judgment, this is when you express

all your thoughts about the artwork if the message is clear to the viewers of the art. Appreciating

an artwork is like appreciating music, many people appreciate it through its message, what they

feel towards it, or it shows a true to life scenario that the viewers can relate to.
