Subject: Data Quality Issues for Sprocket Central Pty Ltd
Dear Associate Director,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to bring to your attention some data quality issues that have been
identified in the dataset we are currently using for our analysis. These issues, if left unaddressed, could
potentially lead to inaccurate or unreliable conclusions being drawn from the data. I have also included
some suggestions of strategies that can be implemented to mitigate these issues.
• Data accuracy: Inconsistencies and inaccuracies in the data. One record has date of birth making
them 174 years old. Also, there's a column with random, incomprehensible data that seems
corrupted.
• Data completeness: Some tables have blank values.
• Data consistency: Some tables have incorrect data types. Some columns can use data validation
like gender, product line, product class, and product size.
• Data currency: The transactions data ran from October 2017 to December 2017 and it the
dataset has no problems with data currency.
• Data validity: Some data points in the dataset are invalid, for example, one record in date of birth
in the Customer Demographic sheet making them 174 years old.
• Data uniqueness: We did not find any duplicate data in the dataset.

To mitigate these issues, we suggest the following actions:

• Conduct regular data audits to identify and remove invalid data points, and to ensure the
uniqueness of the data
• Establish clear data collection guidelines and procedures
• Implementing cross-checking procedures between different fields
• Establishing clear guidelines and naming conventions across the data fields
• Implementing data validation checks for certain columns with specific data types
