Every year State Bank of India conducts examination to recruit candidates for the post of
probationary officer (PO). Those candidates who are selected via the examinations will be
posted in any of the SBI branch located in India. Only the worthy enough who have put their
effort to practice and understand the syllabus have been able to clear the examination.
The role and responsibility are bit similar to a manager as there will be under training period
for 2 year as PO and then they will be given the post of assistant manager in any of the
branches in India. While in the training period they learn more things related to banking sector
like finance, marketing, billing and accounting by giving them the responsibility of various task
related to account preparation, posting, making draft insurance, cash management etc.
The examination will be having two type of paper one will be Mains and other will be prelims.
The SBI PO Books syllabus and exam pattern will be based on these the topics asked in
these two papers, where the prelims will have the following topics like English Language,
Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability while the mains will have the other topics like
Reasoning Ability& Computer Aptitude, Data analysis and interpretation, general Awareness,
banking awareness, English language, letter writing and essay writing. The questionnaires will
be asked based on the exam pattern set by the official authorities by giving each section the
required marks allotted to them. The prelims paper will be of 100 marks while the Mains
consist of 200 marks related to objective test and there is another descriptive test along with
mains which is of 50 marks.

Each of the topics is break down to 30, 35 and 35 marks for reasoning ability, Quantitative
ability and English language respectively.
One can get a better understanding of the exam pattern by referring SBI PO previous year
papers where each of the section is been divided based on the topics mentioned above. You
can even practice the sample paper after your preparation which will give you more
confidence in attempting the questions during examination.
