[Track 2, page 10]
Storybook
Read the Mini-Book pages 1~10 and listen to The Story of Santa Claus on the CD.

* The Story of Santa Claus

Santa is a nice, old man. He lives in a far-off land.
I’ll tell you his story. Sit back and enjoy. We’ll start from when he was a boy.
Santa’s hobby was making toys for little girls and little boys. He made cars, balls, and planes. He also made
long, black trains.
Santa made toys every day. Then he loved to give them away. Soon there were too many toys, and not
enough girls and boys.
So Santa went from town to town, giving out toys all around. Children smiled from ear to ear, and said to
Santa “Come back next year!”
Children began to write him letters, asking for toys, sweets, and sweaters. The letters began to make a pile.
Santa thought, “This will take a while.”
“I need a factory with lots of shelves.” “I need help. I need elves.” The little elves worked night and day, to
make the toys so kids could play.
But all the elves lived way up high, in a town near the sky. Santa packed up all his things, and on a deer,
he put wings.
He flew his deer through the sky, from early morning until night. When he arrived in the northern land, he
asked the elves to give him a hand.
Now they work all through the year, to bring us joy and Christmas cheer. A surprise is coming, all children
know when they hear Santa laugh, “Ho, ho, ho!”

Storybook
Read the Mini-Book pages 11~20 and listen to The Friendly Shark on the CD.

* The Friendly Shark

I went to the beach yesterday. I was bored. I wanted to play.
I saw a shark. He said. “Hi!” I jumped on his back, and yelled, “Goodbye.”
For miles and miles we followed the tide. I said, “Gosh! I love to ride!”
The seas were calm, the sky was bright. The friendly shark swam with all his might.
We swam to Hawaii. I liked the people, and they liked me.
I sat back and ate a plum, and watched a man play the drum. We sang songs. We watched them dance.
We got bored then swam to France.
We ate bread. We ate cheese. The shark ate green, buttered peas.
We ate our food, every single bit. The shark then had a banana split. “Now where do we go?” I said with a
smile. “How about Egypt? Let’s swim in the Nile.”
We swam and played and lay in the sun. The desert was hot, but we had fun.
It was late. It was dark. “Let’s go home,” said the shark.
“Meet me every day here at three!” “Let’s travel the world through the sea.”
I said, “You bet!” and waved goodbye. This story is true. It’s not a lie.

* Bouncing Balls
Bob is my buddy. He’s a good friend. Yesterday, he turned ten. We all went to Bob’s black house. Bob’s
butler was a mouse.
In his house lived many cats. On the ceiling were black bats. These were not like baseball bats. They had
vampire teeth like cats.
Bob’s mom baked big, black cakes. And she gave him a few pet snakes.
Bob got many gifts from cats. I gave him a new toy car. But the best ones came from bats. They gave Bob
a big surprise. I could not believe my eyes! The bats gave him bouncing balls. We bounced then, bounced
them through the halls.
We went bouncing out the door. In the yard we bounced some more. We bounced the balls around town.
We shocked mean, old Mrs. Brown.
We bounced low and we bounced high. Bluebirds watched as we bounced by.
Bouncing, bouncing to a ball. Bouncing round the shopping mall. We bounced up and we bounced down.
We bounced around the town. We bounced and bounced and bounced some more. And then we bounced
right out the door. Then our balls began to pop. It was time for us to stop. Next time we want to bounce
with you. Come to Bob’s tomorrow at two!

* A Trip to Machu Picchu

I took a trip to Peru, to a place called Machu Picchu. The top of the mountain was so high. It could almost
touch the sky! At the top, it was so pretty. Long ago, it was a small city. Some cities were gray, but this one
was green. The air was fresh and very clean. I lay on a rock and began to nap. Suddenly, appeared a chap.
He said, “Hi, I’m from this town. And I’d like to show you around.” We went down the busy road. The town
was new! It was not old.
Friendly people were everywhere. They had feathers in their hair. Boys were jumping up and down. Girls
were walking Ilamas around. I watched them plant beans and corn. Then we heard the lunch horn.
We went to visit the city clock. It was a sundial made of rock. We took a bath in a big fountain. The water
came from the mountain.
People gave thanks to the sun. Then, we ate. The night was fun. We ate grains like corn and rice. The food
was great and the people were nice. Then, we went to a house with no door. We lay down on the dirt
floor. It got cold. I needed something to wear. They gave me a coat made of IIama hair. Then, I soon fell
asleep. There was not a peep.
The mountains were quiet. I was awakened by a sunbeam. Oh, my gosh! It was a dream. When I woke up,
there was no one around. I was not in a busy town. But next to the sun, up in the sky, I saw my friend,
waving goodbye!

Once there were a king and queen at the castle. They were both very sad. “We want a baby! Then we’ll be

One happy day, their wish came true. “Listen, everyone! We have news for you!” “There’s a new baby
princess here today.” The people were happy and shouted, “Hurray!” “Let’s have a party. We’ll invite all the
fairies. We’ll have ice cream, juice and lots of berries.” The baby princess was so cute. The fairies played
games. They ate all the fruit. But a bad fairy came into the room. She was ugly and green. She flew on a
broom. “One day she’ll hurt her finger and fall asleep. But she won’t wake up. Everyone will weep.”
There were many sharp things. The king ordered to take them away. He said to the princess. “Be careful
when you play!”
The princess grew up. She became so pretty. “Let’s go for a walk!” she said to her Kitty. The princess and
the kitty walked through the trees. “Be careful, Princess!” said the buzzing bees.
The princess bent down. She picked a flower. When she looked up, she saw a tower. She walked into the
tower. It was dark and scary. “Welcome to my home!” said the bad fairy.
“Sit here, Princess. Give this a try! Hurry up, Princess. Don’t be shy!” said the bad fairy. The princess sat
down on the dirty couch. She touched the wheel and hurt her finger. “OUCH!” Suddenly she was very tired
