Simplification in K-Maps with Don’t Cares

K-maps with Don’t cares
• Remember a don’t care (X) can be a 0 or a 1 since we don’t care
• In a K-map we will consider an X as 1 if and only if it helps us get
better simplification
• In other words, while drawing the circle around an implicant, we will
include a don’t care in this circle to make it larger (remember that we
always follow the rule of 1,2,4,8 or 16 ones and Xs this time
• At the end of simplification, an X that has not been used in the
simplified expression means that it has been considered a 0
