INTRODUCTION
WHAT IS MICROSOFT?
In 1975, Microsoft is founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in Albuquerque, New
Mexico. Their first product Is a version of the BASIC programming for the Altair
8800 microcomputer. Since then, Microsoft has expanded their Technology,
resulting in new waves of newly-invented gadgets and software. They created
tools that would help the user on their workspace such as Microsoft Word,
Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel and more. Throughout its History, Microsoft has
played a pivotal role in shaping the personal computing landscape and has
remained a key player in the tech industry, with a wide range of software and
hardware products.

WHAT IS MICROSOFT WORD?


Microsoft Word is a software that allows you to create documents, letters, books
and more. This offers a variety of features and functionality that can speed up
your work and increase productivity, whether you're a student working on an
academic paper, a professional writing a report, or anybody else looking to
produce high-quality documents.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING


MICROSOFT WORD?
• Initial Steps: We'll commence with the fundamentals, covering how to initiate
Microsoft Word, navigate its user interface, and establish your first document.
• Document Authorship: Acquire the skills to compose and modify text, insert
images, tables, and various other elements into your documents, while also
configuring page layouts.
• Mastery of Formatting: Discover the art of document styling, encompassing fonts,
styles, and paragraph formatting to enhance the visual appeal of your content.
• Collaboration and Distribution: Learn the ropes of collaborative work within the
same document, tracking changes, and disseminating your work to colleagues
or acquaintances.

• Advanced Capabilities: Dive into more advanced functionalities like mail


merging, creating templates, and utilizing macros to automate tasks.

BASIC FEATURES OF MICROSOFT


These basic features of Microsoft will guide you throughout the software.

• Home
This has options like font color, font size, font style, alignment, bullets,
line spacing, etc. All the basic elements which one may need to edit
their document is available under the Home option.
• Insert
Tables, shapes, images, charts, graphs, header, footer, page
number, etc. can all be entered in the document. They are included
in the “Insert” category.
• Design
The template or the design in which you want your document to be
created can be selected under the Design tab. Choosing an
appropriate tab will enhance the appearance of your document.
• Page Layout
Under the Page Layout tab comes options like margins, orientation,
columns, lines, indentation, spacing, etc.
• References
This tab is the most useful for those who are creating a thesis or
writing books or lengthy documents. Options like citation, footnote,
table of contents, caption, bibliography, etc. can be found under
this tab.
• Review
Spell check, grammar, Thesaurus, word count, language, translation,
comments, etc. can all be tracked under the review tab. This acts as
an advantage for those who get their documents reviewed on MS
Word.

Apart from all the above-mentioned features, the page can be set
in different views and layouts, which can be added and optimized
using the View tab on the Word document. Margins and scales are
also available for the benefit of the users.

HOW TO CREATE A DOCUMENT?

1. Open MS Word
2. Select Blank Document
If word is already open, Select File > New >
Blank Document

To create a document using a


template:
1. Open Word. Or, if Word is already open,
select File > New.

2. Double-click a template to open it.

Search for a template:


1. Open Word. Or, if Word is already open,
select File > New.

2. In the Search for online templates box,


enter a search word like letter, resume,
or invoice.

Or, select a category under the search box


like Business, Personal, or Education.

3. Click a template to see a preview. Click the arrows on the side of the
preview to see more templates.

4. Select Create

HOME SECTION

This is the entire Home Section of the MS Word. It consists of 5 parts:


• Clipboard
• Font
• Paragraph
• Styles
• Editing

CLIPBOARD
In the Clipboard, you will see different buttons. It is
mainly used for texts
• Cut (Ctrl-X) – is for removing the selected
text/image.
• Copy (Ctrl-C) – it copies the text and image
• Paste (Ctrl-V) – to paste the copied text or
image.
• Format Painter – used to quickly apply the same
formatting such as color, font style and size to
multiple places of text or graphics.

FONT
In the Font Section, this is where you
will edit your font. Customizing,
coloring, resizing, etc.
Here are some of the few buttons
you can use to customize your text.
• BOLD – used to thicken the text
• Italic – used to slant the text
• Underline – used to underline
the text.

PARAGRAPH
In the Paragraph Section, this is
where you will adjust the layout of
your document. You can add
numberings, bullets, or even align
the paragraphs. This will help you
adjust your document to make it
more presentable.
• Align Left (Ctrl-L)
• Align Right (Ctrl-R)
• Justify (Ctrl-J)
• Center (Ctrl-E)

STYLES

In the Styles section, this is where you will insert your preferred style for your texts.
It is a template for texts to easily create your desired style. You can use basic
templates such as Heading Styles, Title, Subtitle, etc.

HEADER AND FOOTER


The header is a section of the document that appears in the top margin, while
the footer is a section of the document that appears in the bottom margin.
Headers and footers generally contain additional information such as page
numbers, dates, an author's name, and footnotes, which can help keep longer
documents organized and make them easier to read. Text entered in the
header or footer will appear on each page of the document.

TO CREATE HEADER AND FOOTER:


1. Double-click anywhere on the top or bottom margin of your
document. In our example, we'll double-click the top margin.

2. The header or footer will open, and a Design tab will appear on
the right side of the Ribbon. The insertion point will appear in the
header or footer.

3. Type the desired information into the header or footer. In our


example, we'll type the author's name and the date.

4. When you're finished, click Close Header and Footer. Alternatively,


you can press the Esc key.

5. The header or footer text will appear.

HOW TO SAVE A DOCUMENT:


Save your document

1. Click FILE > Save, pick or browse to a folder, type a name for your
document in the File name box, and click Save.

2. Save your work as you go - hit Ctrl+S often.

3. To print, click the FILE tab, and then click Print.
