Brothers
Assi Rahbani
● A Lebanese composer, musician, and producer.
● Mansour and Elias Rahbani.
● Born on May 4, 1923 in Antelias, Lebanon.
● Died on June 21, 1986 in Beirut, Lebanon.
● He married Lebanese singer Nouhad Haddad,
who is known as Fairuz.
● Ziad, Rima, Layal and Hali.
● On Sept 22, 1972, Rahbani suffered a brain
hemorrhage and was hospitalized.
● By the late 1970s, Assi’s mental health began to
deteriorate.
Mansour Rahbani
● A Lebanese composer, musician, poet, writer and
producer.
● Born on March 17, 1925 in Antelias, Lebanon.
● Died on January 13, 2009 in Beirut, Lebanon.
● Wrote four Diwans as a poet.
● Mansour preferred writing poetry in classical Arabic.
● He liked large orchestral compositions unlike his
brother Assi who preferred folk tunes.
● After the death of his older brother, he spent years
fighting hurtful critics claiming that Assi was the
musical genius and Mansour the poetic genius, taking
away his musical contribution.
● Oussama Rahbani, musician and composer.
Al-Rahbani Brothers
● The Rahbani Brothers are a Lebanese composer and
songwriter duo made up of the brothers Assi Rahbani
and Mansour Rahbani.
● Their third younger brother Elias Rahbani (1938-2021) is
not considered to be a part of the Rahbani Brothers.
● They shaped the Modern Arab music throughout the
20th century.
● The brothers insisted that all work was their joint
creative products in all aspects.
● It made the critics and the curious fans often wondered
how they divided their duties between writing the lyrics
and composing the music.
● Assi and Mansour composed Fairuz’s first song “Itab”.
Al-Rahbani Brothers
● The Rahbani Brothers and Fairuz became an
independent musical group.
● In 1957, the trio performed for the first time at the
Baalbeck International Festival.
● They extended their activities to the world of cinema,
and composed the music for 3 films: Biyaa el
Khawatem, Safar Barlek, Bent el Hares.
● Their music combines elements taken from Lebanese
folklore, popular songs, and European music, a blend of
influences that was topped off with Arabic lyrics in
colloquial Lebanese.
● Fairuz's unique voice inspired al-Rahbani brothers to
compose songs that channeled the beauty, culture, and
heritage of the Lebanese countryside.

● Son of Fairouz & Assi Rahbani
● His compositions are well known in the Arab
World
● Started composing at a young age
● Composed his first song “Sa’alouni El nas” at 17
● Wrote his first play before the age of 20 “Sahriye”

● He attempts to blend arab music with jazz and calls
it “Oriental Jazz”
● He later released several albums like “Abou Ali” &
“Monodose”
● Composed many singles like “Kifak enta” by Fairouz
● He’s also a political commentator
● Known for his strong political views
● Many of his musicals satirize lebanese politics

ISMAIL YASSIN
● Considered the most famous Egyptian comedian
● Born 1912 in Suez, Egypt
● Died 1972
● Started his career as a monologue singer
● Then started acting in 1939 in the film “Khalaf El
Habayeb”
● He became very popular that there are about 15 movies
that carry his name in the title like “Ismail Yassin fil
geish” & “Ismail Yassin fil Ustul”
● His career companion that helped his success was
director Fateen Abdelwahab (worked on 15 films)
together
● Relied much on his unattractive facial expressions,
making fun of his large mouth to evoke laughter.
Abdel Halim Hafez
● Abdel Halim Ali Shabana, commonly known as
Abdel Halim Hafez.
● An Egyptian singer, actor, and film producer.
● Born on June 21, 1929 in El-Halawat, El Sharqiah,
Egypt.
● Died on March 30, 1977 in London, England.
● In the early days of his career, Abdel Halim was
rejected for his new style of singing.
● He became Egypt’s first romantic singer.
● Over 300 songs of Halim’s songs were recorded and
he starred in 16 classical and successful movies.
