Despite the apparent similarity between the GDP Deflator and the CPI at first glance, there are a
few significant distinctions. First, nothing that is imported is included in the GDP Deflator; only products
that are produced domestically. The CPI covers everything that people purchase, including items from
other countries, which makes this different. There is another distinction: the CPI measures only the
products that consumers purchase, but the GDP Deflator measures the prices of all goods and services.
