10/10/23 2 I met with my mentor today. We talked about the tasks that I would be
performing during my internship. She indicated that I would be
providing basic care for the animals and that I would be collecting
goods from donation boxes in town.

10/14/23 2 Today, I attended an online seminar in Veterinary Care. I learned

about distemper in dogs and how to care for them when they are
feeling sick.

10/20/23 30 min. I visited the Agriculture Department to speak with the teachers and
learn about what basic care animals in our community need so that we
can help get them out of shelters and into homes.

11/5/23 1 I interviewed several community members, who have adopted animals

from the shelter where I am interning and asked about how their
experiences affected their families. Many people indicated that it was
difficult, but positive.

11/10/23 2 At the shelter I cared for several newborn cats and walked dogs. My
mentor indicated that it was important for shelter animals to become
acclimated to different people, so that they are friendly when people
come to adopt them.

11/14/23 1 I visited several local pet stores to ask for donations to the shelter and
received some toys and food. I also collected donations of old towels
from community members.

12/10/23 2 I helped to plan the shelter’s Holiday Party for which they hope
people will come to adopt animals. We created a plan for people to be
able to interact with animals and also finalized a process to have these
pets ready for a Christmas adoption.

12/16/23 3 Attended shelter’s Holiday Event. Many animals were adopted and it
became very clear what steps need to be taken to show the community
that shelter animals are not only safe and loving, but that they need
more love and care than pets from breeders and pet stores.
