AN INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS LAW
What is business law?

 Business law, also known as Commercial law, is the body of law that
deals with the rules and institutions of the commercial transactions,
including banking, commerce, copyrights, insolvency, insurance,
patents, trademarks, shipping, storage, transportation and
warehousing is called the business law.

 Business law ,also called Commercial law or Mercentile law, the


body of rules, whether by convention, agreement, national or
international legislation, governing the dealings between persons in
commercial matters.
When did it begin?

 Started from earliest human civilizations.


 Standardized code of commercial regulation existed in ancient
Egypt and Babylonia.

 The Hammurabi Code in 18 th century.


 Books on religion.
 In Roman empire ,business law was incorporated into the
broader legal system.
 Early Renaissance period.
 Lex Mercatoria : Law merchant.
 In late 18th century law merchant had become incorporated
in English Common Law.
