Description of my Capstone Project:

For my capstone project, I am planning on researching the impact that social media has on
teens/people in general, specifically on their mental health. My project aims to investigate the
relationship between social media and its effects on people's mental health. In an age where
online platforms have become essential to our daily lives, and understanding the implications of
such engagements is important. I seek to shed light on the different aspects of social media's
influence, considering both positive and negative consequences, and ultimately contribute to
spread awareness and potentially contribute to promoting healthier online behaviours by doing
so.

To start off the project, I will review existing research on the subject. This will mainly include
studies that examine the impact of social media on emotional well-being, self-esteem, anxiety,
depression, and other mental health-related factors.

To get a diverse dataset, I will conduct multiple interviews with people of different ages to
collect data on social media use, content consumption, and its connection to mental health
indicators.

I aim to differentiate between the positive and negative impacts of social media on mental health.
This means recognizing how supportive online communities, education, and awareness
campaigns can have a positive influence on well-being, while also identifying sources of stress,
addiction, and misinformation.

Using my findings, I'll try to create strategies backed by evidence to provide a possible solution
to reduce the negative and boost the positive effects of social media usage. This could involve
making guidelines for healthier usage, self-regulation tools, and awareness campaigns (posters).
A big part of my project will involve sharing my research findings in a YouTube video when the
project is finalized. Raising awareness about how social media affects mental health will help
people make informed and overall better choices.
