Answer the following questions:

1. Outline the context of the song within the musical.

A highlight from the musical ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ is the song ‘Think of me’. One of
the musical's main characters, Christine Daaé, is introduced in this song.
The musical is set in the Paris Opera in 1881. After years of on-stage mishaps, the prima
donna who was first selected for a lead role in the opera withdraws from the production.
When the producers of the show are about to cancel, Christine is given the opportunity to
take on the lead role in the show. She starts singing ‘Think of me’ hesitantly, but quickly
gains confidence, astounding the cast with her voice, and is granted the role.

2. Describe the mood of the song - refer to the music and the lyrics

The song's lyrics discuss Christine’s desire for someone to remember her even though they
are ‘far away and free’. ‘Think of Me’ is a song that employs a wide range of musical
techniques to create a romantic and happy mood.

3. Give an overview of the structure of the song. The following words may guide your response.
