ESSAY

1. DISCUSS THE RELATIONSHIP OF MENTAL DISORDER TO CRIME OR

CRIMINALITY.

It's not easy to get a clear picture of the correlation between mental illness and criminal
behavior. Although certain people with mental illness may be more prone to criminal activity, the
vast majority of those who suffer from such conditions do not actually commit any crimes.

A higher propensity toward violence has been linked to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder,
among other mental health conditions. Nevertheless, substance addiction and medication
noncompliance are frequently associated with this risk.

And, unfortunately, those with mental illness are overrepresented in the criminal justice system.
This is because many people who need help with their mental health cannot get it, so they act
out in ways that get them locked up.

Furthermore, it is crucial to acknowledge that people with mental problems are frequently the
targets of criminal acts. They are more vulnerable to assault, neglect, and abuse than the
general population.

In conclusion, it is crucial to appreciate the intricacy of the relationship between mental illness
and criminal activity. Instead of punishing people with mental health issues, society should
ensure them have access to effective treatment and care so they don't have to worry about
running afoul of the law.
