Majority Verdict

• Dismissed the position taken by SC in Suresh Kumar Koushal case (2013) that the LGBTQ community
constitute a minuscule minority and so there was no need to decriminalise homosexual sex.

• The court declared transgenders as the ‘Third Gender’ and affirmed the fundamental rights guaranteed
to them.
• They were also granted reservations in admissions to educational institutions and jobs.
