IP Chair’s Note
“THE UNITED NATIONS IS OUR ONLY GREAT HOPE FOR A PEACFUL AND FREE WORLD“

Cordial salutations to everyone reading this!

We, on behalf of the GDGIS SPORTSMUN team, would like to pay our heartiest
thanks to you for being a part of this conference. Given the disheartening circumstan-
ce of covid, GDGIS SPORTSMUN chapter 2 was conducted digitally with 12 com-
mittees ranging from sports to fiction to politics; even though it was online we were

The Goenkan Herald

able to pass through the obstacles faced owing to our zealous and preserving team.

The committees were filled with enthusiastic and curious minds who exce-
lled their way to the top displaying exceptional leadership and skills. The de-
legates were able to function efficiently within the bounds of the rules of the
committees. The combined efforts of our student leaders were able to achie-
ve amazing heights and we are proud to be a part of such a great society.

We, as the International Press, had an immense responsibility to cover all the events of
this MUN conference; but we are thankful to our reporters whose endeavours and the res-
pect they had for the international press helped us make not only this committee but also
this conference a huge success; as we proudly show you the coverages in this newsletter.

Dont’t let Pressure Stop You!
“A LEADER IS THE ONE WHO KNOWS THE WAY, SHOWS THE WAY, GOES THE WAY AND SHOWS THE WAY“

As it is quoted “Great leaders don’t tell what to do. They

show how it is done”, Secretary General, Mr. Shaurya Jin-
dal has proved this quote by playing a vital role in organi-
zing GDGIS SPORTS MUN 2021. Due to the ongoing pan-
demic the SPORTS MUN 2021 was conducted online, when
the secretary was asked whether he would prefer the MUN
to be conducted online or offline he rightly said that the sa-
fety of delegates and all other members is more important
The Goenkan Herald

than comfort or preference. There is a famous quote, “Try to learn something about
everything and everything about something”. And while organizing such a big event
the secretary has also learnt many things. He said that the most important lesson he
has learnt is that one should not try to do everything on his/her own, team work is
very important. By dividing the work not only responsibilities are shared but the effi-
ciency of work also increases. In everyone’s life there is a time when they want to
reverse their decision, but the main thing is whether they get demotivated from that
or they stay motivated and springs back with more force. And the secretary general
also faced that situation but the important point is he stayed motivated and the result
is in front of us in the form of successful SPORTS MUN. He also said that achieving
his goal was thing that kept him motivated. He also said that he hadn’t expected so
many people to take part in SPORTS MUN and the reality is better than his expecta-
tions. At the last, the thing that matters the most is the final result, and the hardwork
and dedication of all the people who participated in this session can be seen in their
enthusiasm with which they are conducting the sessions and the zeal of the delegates.

“A FLOWER DOESN’T THINK OF COMPETING TO THE FLOWER NEXT TO IT. IT JUST BLOOMS”- ZEN SHIN

“What you do has a far greater impact than what

you say” and Miss Raashi Sharma is a blueprint
of it. During the interview, Miss Raashi presented
herself confidently and proved to be insightful for
the position of the deputy secretary general of GD-
GIS SPORTS MUN 2021. She is brilliant, a light-
ning bolt in her field. When asked what this MUN

The Goenkan Herald

has taught her, she answered that she has learnt the
ability to balance her schoolwork with extra-
curriculars and this immense responsibility grace

fully. She has been continuously putting effort and showing a keen interest
in Model United Nations and the impact it has on young minds. She has always
wanted to be a part of such a noble cause which changes lives. She appreciates
her co-workers by saying that they are very hardworking and they are the main
reason why this conference is a success. In the interview she was asked,”What
is your favourite part about attending this MUN?” Her humorous self answe-
red “for the rewards!” But she believes that seeing a young delegate being so
anxious and energetic for his first session truly gives her “deja vu” and is a very
ecstatic experience.

Even though she is extremely grateful for having such a colossal opportunity,
she believes there is always a scope of improvement and we are truly learning so
much from her!

the break the same session was going on like before. Like this from starting
to the end of sessions the betting was going on so great. All the teams were
giving their best in the session. In the betting session some teams were losing
the legend players by not choosing them although session was really good
.
In the interview with the chair of the committee we got to know about his
personal perspective on his favorite IPL team, favorite IPL player and we
got to know about the best strategy on how to bidding? As per his con-
cern the team should know the space, the important players team need, and
the strategy. The highest bid is for 2 players – Virat Kholi and Rohit Sha-
rma at price of 24 cr. Virat Kholi was sold to RCB and Rohit Sharma was
sold to MI-1. The lowest bid was for many players . That’s end for the day.

Continuous Crisis Committee
“ONLY A CRISIS - ACTUAL OR PERCEIVED PRODUCES REAL CHANGE” - MILTON FRIEDMAN

“Taliban take over Afghanistan” has been the highlight of the recent news for
quite some time now. The delegates from all over the world took an active parti-
cipation in having a heated discussion on the same, covering all the parameters
within the time. The crisis committee was commenced by The Secretary General
Mr. Shaurya Jindal. The conference began with the GSL of different delegates.
The delegates made some very strong points, unhappy with the intolerable be-
The Goenkan Herald

haviour of taliban. “Life is to be lived with peace, not with pieces” said Saudia
Arabia. The Taliban has now taken a wrong turn. It was then followed by a mo-
derate caucus on the topic of “Should all the Taliban be removed from the coun-
try or should they rule the Afghans”. Russia gave full support to Taliban which
was quite shocking. Yemen, Iraq, South Korea, Armenia, Germany spoke in the
favour of the Afghan government. The Taliban is an offensive group Japan com-
mented. The first crisis commenced with the Afghan government announcing
that they will reassume control of Afghanistan at any cost even if it means decla-
ring war. Many countries didn’t want to be involved in the same. Japan believed
that wasn’t the solution, verbal communication is. Cooperation between Afghan
government and taliban could also bring peace A moderated caucus was conduc-
ted on the topic of “measure to prevent war”. Active participation of the leader of
taliban, Afghan government, Japan, Saudi Arabia. Many countries didn’t want
.
to be any part of the war. The conclusion stated was that many countries were
unhappy with the Talibans and their orthodox mindset. Some of the countries
didn’t quite like the idea of war and didn’t want to affect the peace of their own
countries. There after it could be concluded that verbal communication is the
key.

“DON’T CHOOSE THE QUAFFLE IF YOU SEE THE SNITCH“
So, the most awaited day has finally arrived. The GDGIS Sports MUN 2021, Chap-
ter 2. Everyone has really worked hard to make this day a success. And the 1st com-
mittee session begins, all the delegates seem extremely enthusiastic, the chair intro-
duced the points of motion. Fudge, Draco, Ginny Weasley, Harry Potter, Umbridge
and various others discussed about;
“Is Quidditch unfair to half-bloods?”
Dumbledore(as the headmaster of Hogwarts): the game is well balanced and fair. It
is clearly based on solitary techniques/talent and not according to the blood flowing
in one’s veins. He also states that quidditch is the best sport ever played. Laven-
der(nobody asked but Ron’s ex): quidditch is not unfair on the bases of blood and
is overall an incredible sport. But it definitely requires changes. Dolores(must say

The Goenkan Herald

she is nothing like the actual witch): increasing points of quaffel doesn’t make ant
difference as the game ends as soon as the sneaker catches the snitch. Harry Potter(-
finally!!!!): As a half-blood I don’t feel it is biased. The problem leis in the violence.
Which if amended, can be fruitful.
“Problems in Quidditch”
Rich can influence the sport, as they can buy expensive, and latest flying brooms.
It should be fair for all. Time limit in sport must be provided as nobody can make
sure low long can the game continue. The heavy 65 kg iron bludgers must be repla-
ced with some sort of soft balls. Breaks must me provided and participants should
be allowed to change the tags. Wands must not be allowed in the stadium. After the
great hustle and bustle and hearing all the points raised by our loved Harry Potter,
Odgen finally agrees that amendments can be made in the game. Breaks will be
provided. And the iron bludgers can be substitute by soft balls which can freeze the
player for x minutes. As the basic nature of SLYTHERINS, one can’t imagine pass
of any argument without their intervention. So, Draco opposes harry with all facts
and figures, that Victor Krum lost to Ireland by 160-170 although he had catched the
snitch. Adding more to the argument he states that despite of not having an expensi-
ve broom Ginny Weasley(Hp’s wife BTW) still won the game. Which clearly shows
that game cannot be influenced, it is clearly based on an individual’s talent.

UNHRC
“A DEJA-VU IS YOUR FUTURE SELF DOING A PAST LIFE REGRESSION” - DAVID-MELLEM-THOMAS
Qatar has been a divisive choice, from its winning bid to host the 2022 World Cup to its
preparations for the month-long tournament. The hot weather in the Persian Gulf country
forced a change from the customary summer schedule to the cooler months of November
and December. The mystery of how a small country with no soccer history (population 2.7
million) won a secret vote to host the World Cup continues to be investigated. While
human rights organisations have criticised the exploitation of foreign employees, Qatar
claims the event will help improve labour rules. The committee began with the motion
of the General Speakers List (GSL). After which the committee moved onto a moderated
The Goenkan Herald

caucus on the topic- “What are the issues faced by the migrants of Qatar”. The main issue
coming to light was unpaid remunerations and unhealthy accommodations. The committee
then moved into an unmoderated caucus after which there was a motion for the modera-
ted caucus to be passed for “boycotting the World Cup 2022 and responsibility of FIFA ”.
The committee then passed a motion for an unmoderated caucus for the delegates to work
on their working paper. There was another unmoderated caucus for the discussion of the
working papers. Then, there was a motion passed for the discussion of the working papers.
The working papers of Norway, Australia, Syria, Germany, Palestine failed whereas the
working papers of Pakistan, Russia passed. The committee then started the motion of the
GSL. After which the committee moved into a moderated caucus on the topic “The kafala
system and its flaws”.Thereafter the committee passed an unmoderated caucus for discus-
sing the draft resolutions. There was then a motion passed for 1 v/s 1 between the delegate
of Norway and Pakistan where both the delegates came up with astounding answers. The
committee then moved back to the GSL. The committee then passed a motion for an un-
moderated caucus to discuss the draft resolutions. After a lot of discussion over the draft
resolutions of the delegates, the committee concluded bypassing the draft resolution of the
delegates of Norway Australia and Syria (combined) and the key takeaway stated by them
was “the contractor shall provide prompt redress, and if necessary, compensation, to any
worker who sustains material loss or harm as the result of any breach of the above provi-
sion or in any worksite accidents or losses” The global linkages found for the 2022 FIFA
World Cup are, on the whole, not new. They have existed for decades and have only now
come to light as a result of the upcoming competition. On the one hand, these difficulties
are difficult to address. The issue of human rights and support for terrorism may have a
detrimental impact on Qatar international image, while their experience with long-term
actions might be studied.

game of hockey from his coach Pankaj Gupta and soon
became an expert in ball dribbling and goal scoring. He
quickly became the Indian Hockey Team captain due to
his excellent playing techniques and was given the nick-
name ‘Chand’ which means ‘Moon’. During his sports ca-
reer Dhyan Chand had won three Olympic medals and
till date remains the only hockey player who has recei-

“THE UNITED NATIONS SYSTEM’S STILL THE BEST INSTRUMENT FOR MAKING THE WORLD LESS FRAGILE”

The Munich Massacre was an attack led by the Palestine terrorist group
“Black September” during the 1972 Olympics, who took 9 members of
the Israeli Olympic team hostage. In this conference, the delegates from
all over the globe had an intense discussion on the same. The day be-
gan with an ice breaker of some fun questions to jell with the delegates.
The floor was opened by the Chairperson of the committee. In the GSL
delegates of different countries were given a chance to put their point
up front. Syria put Thailand In a difficult position with his curiosities.
The Goenkan Herald

The speech made by the delegate of the USA was very controversial so it
was questioned by many delegates. Palestine said that their people have
never been involved in violence from their side. Many delegates mentio-
ned the lack of funds by Palestine and the poor security of the stadium.
This was followed by a moderated caucus (informal debate) and the topic

So once
passed was ”lack of security in the Munich massacre”. The conclusion passed
was the urge for the host country to assign security personnel to the best of

I get
their ability. The second moderated caucus was being discussed on the topic
Global terriorism and ways to combat it. Iraq had a heated argument with
Palestine and Syria. The Vice Chairperson of the Committee (Jiaah Juneja)
gave the Delegate of Iraq over 10 minutes on a particular topic just to spice
up the debate. The response of Iraq to the USA was vague and unsatisfactory.
The last event of the day was the unmoderated caucus where the delegates
were working on their papers. A lot of time was consumed on a particular
topic and the coverage of the topics was restricted. Ultimately the day ended
on a bright note. The second day of the conference started on a not so posi-
tive note. Some Delegates weren’t well informed about the rules of procedu-
re. Syria kept interrupting the chairs and the conference wasn’t functioning
that smoothly. However, the EB and the delegates were able to overcome it.
