Help Wanted Ad on Skills

You are to write a help wanted ad for a part-time or summer-time job that you think you could do.
The job description should include any required education or skill, and must include qualifications
that relate to all the transferable skills we talked about in class:

Time management Talking so people will listen

Organization Negotiating skills
Stress management Teamwork skills
Active Listening Accepting Feedback

For each transferable skill you must give a description of how it applies to the job. At the end of
each of these descriptions you are to put the name of the transferable skill in brackets. Your ad
should also include a heading and information on where to send your resume.

While the example below is for a full-time job, it does give you a good idea of how to structure
your want ad

History Teacher Wanted

Don Mills C.I. is looking for a teacher with a B.Ed. in history from an Ontario university to
join its team of highly motivated teachers, administrators and support staff (teamwork).
Applicants must be able to listen and respond to the various questions and concerns of
students, parents, fellow teachers and administrators (listening skills). Being able to
objectively assess this feedback and apply it to their work would be a definite asset (receiving
feedback).With so many competing demands on a teacher’s time, the candidate must be able to
sort out the most important tasks and act on them in a timely manner (time management).
Being able to maintain and easily access information for lesson plans as well as on student
achievement and behaviour is an asset. (organizational skills) And the ability to talk in a cool
but assertive way in the class and in private conversations is a critical skill (communication:
speaking so people listen). All staff at Don Mills are expected to work collaboratively with
fellow teachers in a consensus building atmosphere of mutual respect (negotiating). Despite
the many pressures and demands which are placed on our teachers, they must be able to
remain calm and focused (stress management).
