Unit 9
How to spend money
I like to go shopping because I can buy things necessary or useful for my home or my work but also
things that i like and never use.

I usually go shopping in the downtown stores, sometimes by year, in some cases I make a mistake
when buying something and I wasted money. For example:

- I bought a t-shirt but it was the wrong size, then I returned that t-shirt to the store.
- I bought a sweater but I didn't use it, so I kept that in my closet.
- I bought shoes but I didn't like it, then I gave those shoes to someone else.
- I bought a bed but it was too big, so I sold that bed.

- On other occasion my girlfriend gave me a wallet, then I called her for dinner one night.
- Once my parents bought me a guitar and I played for them that night.
- My brother bought me headphones and I used it many times.
- My sister bought me sunglasses , I like them.

I usually give gifts on special dates such as Birthdays, New years or Christmas, to my family,
girlfriend and friends.

In my country good gifts are clothes, fragrance and shoes for ladies and watches, shoes and power
tools for men. For example:

- On my mother's last birthday I gave her a perfume.

- On my father's last birthday I gave him a watch.
- On my sisters and girlfriend's last Christmas I gave them dresses.
- On my last birthday I got pants and a belt.

Describe my favorite and useful possession
My favorite possession is my laptop, I bought it a few years ago, it cost me approximately a
thousand dollars, I am engineer system and I need to program applications to websites and make
accounting systems or administrative systems.

My laptop is brand Toshiba, Intel core i seven 7 processor with 8 eight gigabytes of memory RAM
and 500 five hundred gigabytes of hard drive with operating system Windows ten 10.

Its color is silver, sometimes I use it to listen to music or watch movies on YouTube.
Unit 10
Talk about plans
People often make short and long term plans, in their lives. In fact we are here to fulfill our plan to
learn English. So people have targets like the following

Goals
Examples of short term goals:

- Next weekend, I'm going to be in good shape.

- Next month, my sister is going to start her educational career.
- Next semester, I'm going to buy a car.
- After the course, I'm going to study more English.
- In two weeks, my brothers are going to start your own company.

Examples of long term goals:

- Next year, I'm going to build my own house.

- In four years, I'm going to finish my postgraduate in computer science.
- In the future, my parents are going to save money to open your business.
- In the future, I'm going to pay all debts of bank.
- In a few years, we are going to celebrate the freedom of my country.

Grammar:
Subject pronoun + be + going to + verb (base form)

- I’m + going to + verb (base form)

- (You/We/They) + are + going to + verb (base form)
- (He/she/It) + is + going to + verb (base form)
Abilities
People develop abilities and skills that make us suitable for doing certain jobs. For example:

- Can you drive a car?

Yes, I can. But I don't have a license.

- Can you speak three languages?

No, I can't. I only speak two languages Spanish and English.

- Can you handle a billing system?

No, I can't. I don't know that.

- Can you cook several dishes?

Yes, I can. I love cooking.

- Can you dance salsa?

No, I can't. I don't know dance salsa.

- Can you ride a motorbike?

Yes, I can. I ride very well.

- Can you program applications?

Yes, I can. I program in any frameworks.

Describe my best job
My best job would be as a technology manager of a company because I know about emerging
technologies, artificial intelligence, webs and cloud services.

Also I could be travel to other countries, be present at conferences and meet many people with
the same interests.

I could be attend latest technology courses and update knowledge daily with professionals from
other parts of the world, it would be fantastic.
