THE GREAT GATSBY

The story is set in the 1920s and is narrated by Nick Carraway, a young man
who moves to Long Island to work on Wall Street. Nick rents a house in West
Egg, near the majestic mansion of Jay Gatsby, a mysterious and wealthy man
known for his opulent parties.

Nick befriends Gatsby, who turns out to be a hopeless romantic obsessed with
his youthful love, Daisy Buchanan. However, Gatsby's main motivation is to
win back his former love, Daisy Buchanan, who is married to Tom Buchanan,
a rich but arrogant man.

When Jay Gatsby was young, he was sent off to war, during which he became
estranged from his love, Daisy. Years pass, the war has ended, but Daisy
never heard from Gatsby, leading her to believe he died in combat. Time goes
by, and she marries Tom, a wealthy man, continuing with her life. She senses
that her husband Tom is cheating on her and feels unhappy in her seemingly
forced marriage. She receives a letter from a certain Gatsby, who turns out to
be the young man she was in love with in her youth. They reunite, but despite
her feelings for Gatsby, Daisy is trapped in an unsatisfying marriage with Tom.
Gatsby, on the other hand, clings to the idea of a future together.

Later in the story, George Wilson's wife, Myrtle Wilson, Tom's lover, dies in a
tragic car accident. The tragedy unfolds when Tom Buchanan and Myrtle,
takes her for a ride in Gatsby's luxurious car. Tom and Myrtle argue intensely
as they drive through the city. In a fit of rage, Tom loses control and hits Myrtle
with the car, killing her instantly.
However, the situation complicates when George Wilson, Myrtle's husband,
believes that Gatsby is the owner of the car that struck and killed his wife.
George reaches Gatsby's mansion and murders him. Gatsby ends up dying
alone in his pool.

Despite his extravagant parties and wealth, Gatsby dies without the
recognition of many of his acquaintances. Nick Carraway, the story's narrator
and Gatsby's friend, is one of the few who attend his funeral.

The novel was good; considering it's not a genre I usually read, I enjoyed it
quite a bit. The plot twist and an unexpected ending made it very interesting.
