Chapter V. Conclusion & Recommendations
Carrageenan Bioglue does not have any effect on MMP-9 expression and
inflammation score during wistar rat skin wound healing.
● Wistar rat group that received Carrageenan Bioglue treatment does not
have better wound healing progress than the sham group which is indicated
Conclusion by higher MMP-9 expression level.
● Wistar rat group that received Carrageenan Bioglue treatment does not
have better wound healing progress than the sham group which is indicated
by higher Inflammation Score

● Modify and optimize the ratio of chitosan and carrageenan to get the ideal
crosslinking for a better effect on wound healing
● Reconsider the addition of Irgacure 2959 as it might disrupt the
crosslinking between chitosan and carrageenan.
● Assess inflammation score using a quantitative and objective method
instead of a semiquantitative method to prevent subjective assessment
Recommendations from examiner.
● Conduct histopathological examination in multiple days (3rd, 7th, and 14th
days post-wounding) and assess more than one parameter to get a
broader picture and comparison of inflammatory process/response.
● Accompany MMP-9 analysis with the analysis of other MMPs or its
inhibitor(s) which may provide a complete picture of MMPs expression and
comparison between them.
