Silver Lake Partners

Analyst Recruiting
(Start Date Winter 2023)
Fund Overview:

Silver Lake is one of the world’s most successful large-cap private equity funds. It raised its seventh fund in
May 2023, securing nearly $20bn in commitments, and since its inception it has achieved industry-leading
returns across all its funds.

1. Silver Lake may have a reputation for being a technology investor, but tech is less of a sector theme and
more of an investment thesis: they look for opportunities where the implementation or development of
technology will significantly change the operations of the company. This means the fund very frequently
invests in companies outside of “core tech”, so-called “tech-enabled” businesses. These can range from
the more obvious companies, including consumer / internet businesses (e.g. Skype, Groupon, Zynga), to
companies in unrelated sectors, for example financial services (e.g. Nasdaq, Global Blue, Ant Financial).
This investment thesis is ideally suited to the current climate, where large businesses are having to adapt
their business models in order to be more competitive in an increasingly tech / online driven market.
2. Their investment structures are fairly flexible, which vary vastly in size (with an ideal equity check range
from $200M to $1B+ although, in the past, they have also invested smaller amounts, starting from $50M)
and type (LBOs, take-privates, private / public minority investments, carve-outs, recaps and turnaround
/ distressed). The London office is a good example of this diversity, e.g. with a $100M minority
investment in Flixbus and the recent take-private of ZPG (Zoopla) in the UK with $1B equity deployed.
3. “Silver Lake Partners” is Silver Lake’s flagship fund. It’s a large-cap fund that comes with mid-size fund
advantages:
a. Global firm (offices in London, New York, Menlo Park, and Hong Kong) creating an environment
of global deal projects (e.g. cross-staffing between London and US teams) and intra-office
mobility
b. The London office is still relatively small with a very attractive capital-to-people ratio (ample
investment opportunities in Europe)
c. Hugely successful and rapidly expanding firm (e.g. new funds) that creates career and growth
opportunities for everyone
d. Thinly staffed teams: 1-2 Analysts hired per year in London. Most often, the deal teams are
composed of MD + Director or Principal + Associate + Analyst
4. Unlike most other funds of Silver Lake’s size, they invest with comparatively little debt and achieve their
industry-leading returns through a more hands-on operational approach. Investment professionals are
actively involved in value creation in portfolio companies (e.g. recently, 2 London-based Associates spent
multi-month secondments working directly with management in a portfolio company).

Role:

Silver Lake typically hire 1-2 Analysts into their London office every year. The general responsibilities of the
role will include:

1. Financial modelling
2. Industry / business due diligence
3. Presenting investment ideas
4. Interacting with management
5. Managing relationships with advisors
6. Portfolio management
