“ Responding to Challenges and Transforming Graduate Education Through Multidisciplinary

Research”
November 19, 2022

We were invited to join the 1 st academic webinar sponsored by the Council of Graduate
School Deans in Region VI with other participants coming from different Graduate Schools. The
program started at 8:30 in the morning via zoom. It started with an invocation and the
Philippine National Anthem in multimedia presentation. It was followed by Dr. Rex Casiple,
Chief Education Program Specialist from CHED Region 6 welcoming everybody presents on the
said webinar.
Dr. Rowena Libo-on, President, Council of Graduate School Deans- Region VI, presented
the rationale. It was stated in the rationale of this program that it will foster and develop
research, develop research competency and to disseminate research result. This webinar is very
useful for us in graduate studies. It gives us a lot of information that is suitable in preparing for
our research.
Our keynote speaker, Dr. Reysa Alenzuela talked about the Open Science, Open
Knowledge and Open Access: The transformative Landscape in Today’s Ecosystem. She also said
that Knowledge dissemination are higher learnings. I remember the quote “Even the best ideas
remain just that until are shared, until they can be utilized by others”. The potential of
openness became more pervasive with sharing of outputs at different stages of their
maturation and combined with continually updating data, information, methodologies, tools,
and many more. Some final thoughts I remember was Open science is here to stay. It is
becoming increasingly important in the context of the need for replication, transparency and
trustworthiness. Let us all be knowledge co-creators.
During the oral presentations, all the presenters did good research. They are all
equipped with knowledge and mastery of their topic and it shows in their answer to the panel
of judges. The presenters are from different universities and have prepared research from
different context such as business, social sciences and education. One of the presentations that
really caught my attention was about Employment status of the graduate students with
different scholarship by Ma’am Lizel Pacheco of Central Philippine State University. This study
can help me understand the relationship of the labor market and the graduates’ competencies
in landing a job. This could also help me in my work on how I would be able to help the student
beneficiaries in their journey to self-sufficient life.
An open forum followed after the research presentations and was asked questions for
clarifications. Also, it was followed by poster and logo contest which represented by different
schools/ universities. Finally, it was ended with announcing the winners, giving of certification
to the judges and participants, and photo ops with everyone present in the said webinar.
