What is Server?

Computer technology includes several concepts tough to grasp. You

may have a computer server in front of you and may consider
learning data algorithms and machine learning. However, in reality,
knowing what is a computer server and the way they work are
actually simpler.

What Are Computer Servers?

A computer server is a powerful, big computer providing data to
other computers. A server does not have a keyboard or a screen. You
may have your computer with data and files that you have key-in, it
is a server that stores the required data and shares the information
with you anytime you access it. Your server may serve data on a
LAN (local area network) to systems or a WAN (wide area network)
over the internet.

A server is a hardware or software device accepting and responding

to your requests made over a network. Commonly, it refers to the
computer system receiving requests for files and sends the same to
the clients
CCS Process Servers

A single Central Campaign Server coordinates the activities of

multiple Outbound Dialer servers. This means that a campaign can
run concurrently in distributed call centers, using a shared set of
database tables. Each ODS communicates with a controlling CCS to
obtain its current configuration and control messages that signify
campaign property changes, campaign starts, stops, or error
conditions.

 Campaign Server
Campaign Server is responsible for Rule Set processing and
management of object configuration and storage. Campaign Server
maintains all the settings associated with campaigns. It is also
responsible for sending out notifications to control processing.
Campaign Server uses a Notifier connection to signal Outbound
Dialer servers whenever a campaign should be started or stopped. It
sends threshold alerts, manual resets, campaign start/stop
notifications, active campaign IDs, and configuration updates as
needed to control processing. Control messages are not routed
through PMQ. Instead, Campaign Server sends Notifier messages
directly to the Dialer Server process, to tell an Outbound Dialer
server to start, stop, or reset campaigns.

 Update Server
Update Server maintains a Notifier connection with each Outbound
Dialer server. Its role is to acquire database updates that have been
generated by call center agents. Update Server reads data from ODS
message queues and passes these updates to Dialer Tran Server,
which starts the actual database updates by communicating with the
database management system. The tables updated are Call History,
Call Record Schedule, and Agent History.

 Dialer Tran Server

Each Outbound Dialer server receives contact list records from the
Dialer Tran Server process using a Notifier connection. Dialer Tran
Server uses an OLE DB database connection to start database
operations. It passes data to the DBMS (SQL Server or Oracle)
whenever data is received from Update Server. Dialer Tran Server
commands the DBMS to update the Call Record Schedule, Call
History, Contact List, and Agent Statistics tables. The database
management system does the low-level file management work.

 Dialer Stat Server

Dialer Stat Server is the central hub for relaying and caching of
statistic updates for Interaction Supervisor and statistic rules. This
process caches updates and relays them to other servers. Dialer Tran
Server maintains an OLE DB connection to a database server. It
handles SQL processing and starts database operations whenever it
receives data from Update Server. It passes the data to the DBMS
and commands it to update the Call Record Schedule, Call History,
Contact List, and Agent Statistics tables.

The database management system does the low-level processing. If

the database accepts the update, the message is deleted from the
input queue. If the DBMS rejects the database update for some
reason, the message doesn't stay in the input queue. If Dialer Tran
Server cannot update the database, the Update Server process moves
the message to an error queue.

A database may reject messages for a variety of reasons. For

example, a message may refer to a field that has been removed or
renamed from a table, or the format of the data may be inappropriate
for the data type defined in the table.

How does a server work?

When you make a call from the VoIP phone, the call sends the
request to the server. The server changes the call into a form of data
and transmits it over the internet or the local network. The person on
the other end receives the request, accepts it, and then you can
communicate.

A call center server's task is to redirect your calling customers

to the department that is best equipped to satisfy their needs.
Such server is almost like a receptionist who transfers calls to
the proper lines inside an institution.
