Level of Environmental Awareness and Extent of Waste Management

Practices
A proposed conceptual framework
The level of environmental awareness and the extent of waste
management practices are crucial factors in achieving sustainable waste
management systems. A conceptual framework can help understand and
address these issues. Figure 1 shows that environmental awareness will link
waste management practices. The conceptual framework is grounded in the
concept that a higher level of environmental awareness leads to more
effective waste management practices. This concept suggests that individuals
who are more aware of environmental issues, their causes, and their effects
are more likely to engage in practices such as recycling, waste segregation,
and waste reduction. The conceptual framework hypothesizes a positive
relationship between environmental awareness and the extent of waste
management practices.

Environmental Awareness Waste Management Practices

Fig. 1 The Variables of the Study

Environmental awareness will delve into the understanding and knowledge of

individuals about the environment and its related issues. It will explore the
level of consciousness about environmental problems, the causes and effects
of these problems, and the individual’s role in mitigating these issues. On the
other hand, waste management practices will cover practices like recycling,
composting, waste segregation, and reduction of waste generation.

It is frequently stated that when residents are aware of the advantages and
implications of recycling and reuse, among other sustainable measures, they
are more inclined to comply with ecologically responsible waste disposal
practices (Elsaid and Aghezzaf 2015). The effectiveness of these practices in
reducing environmental impact will also be evaluated.
Research Design:

This study will use a correlational design, a type of quantitative

research study. This design will allow us to measure the relationship between
the level of environmental awareness and the extent of waste management
practices. Data will be collected through surveys or questionnaires, and
statistical analysis will be used to determine the correlation between the two
variables.

Research design is a critical component of any research project. It

provides a roadmap for the entire study, outlining the methods and
procedures that will be used to collect and analyze data. The research design
is crucial in ensuring that the research question is answered accurately,
reliably, and validly.

In this study, we will be using a correlational research design. This type

of design is used when researchers want to find out if there are relationships
between two or more variables. In our case, we are interested in finding out if
there is a relationship between the level of environmental awareness and the
extent of waste management practices.

The first step in our research design is to define our variables. The
independent variable in our study is the level of environmental awareness,
and the dependent variable is the extent of waste management practices. We
hypothesize that a higher level of environmental awareness will lead to more
extensive waste management practices.

Next, we will determine our sample. The sample should be

representative of the population we are studying. We will use a stratified
sampling method which involves selecting individuals in particular proportions
from different subpopulations within the broader population, is to ensure that
the subjects chosen are representative of the population of interest selected
for the study.
Once we have our sample, we will collect data using surveys or
questionnaires. These tools will measure the level of environmental
awareness and the extent of waste management practices. The questions
should be clear, concise, and relevant to our research question.

After collecting the data, we will analyze it using statistical methods.

We will use a correlation coefficient to measure the strength and direction of
the relationship between our variables. A positive correlation indicates that as
the level of environmental awareness increases, so does the extent of waste
management practices. A negative correlation, on the other hand, indicates
that as the level of environmental awareness increases, the extent of waste
management practices decreases.

It's important to note that a correlational research design can only show
if there is a relationship between variables, not if one variable causes changes
in another. To determine causality, an experimental research design would be
needed.
Finally, we will interpret our findings and draw conclusions. If our
hypothesis is supported, we can conclude that there is a significant
relationship between the level of environmental awareness and the extent of
waste management practices. If our hypothesis is not supported, we may
need to revise our research question or consider other variables that could be
influencing the relationship.

A correlational research design is a powerful tool for exploring

relationships between variables. By carefully planning and executing our
research design, we can provide valuable insights into the relationship
between environmental awareness and waste management practices. This
information can then be used to inform policies and interventions aimed at
improving waste management and protecting our environment.
