Boyle's Law Problems.

Problem 1:
A gas occupies a volume of 5 L at a pressure of 2 atm. If the pressure is increased to 4
atm, what will be the new volume of the gas?
Solution 1:
According to Boyle's Law, the product of pressure and volume is constant for a given
amount of gas at a constant temperature. Using the formula P1V1 = P2V2, we can solve
for V2:
(2 atm)(5 L) = (4 atm)(V2)
V2 = 2.5 L
Problem 2:
A gas sample has a volume of 10 mL at a pressure of 3 atm. If the pressure is decreased
to 1 atm, what will be the new volume of the gas?
Solution 2:
Using Boyle's Law, we have:
(3 atm)(10 mL) = (1 atm)(V2)
V2 = 30 mL
Problem 3:
A gas occupies a volume of 8 L at a pressure of 5 atm. If the volume is increased to 16 L,
what will be the new pressure of the gas?
Solution 3:
Applying Boyle's Law:
(5 atm)(8 L) = P2(16 L)
P2 = 2.5 atm
Problem 4:
A gas sample has a volume of 100 mL at a pressure of 2 atm. If the volume is decreased
to 50 mL, what will be the new pressure of the gas?
Solution 4:
Using Boyle's Law:
(2 atm)(100 mL) = P2(50 mL)
P2 = 4 atm
Problem 5:
A gas occupies a volume of 4 L at a pressure of 2 atm. If the volume is increased to 8 L,
what will be the new pressure of the gas?
Solution 5:
Applying Boyle's Law:
(2 atm)(4 L) = P2(8 L)
P2 = 1 atm
Problem 6:
A gas sample has a volume of 10 mL at a pressure of 4 atm. If the volume is decreased to
5 mL, what will be the new pressure of the gas?
Solution 6:
Using Boyle's Law:
(4 atm)(10 mL) = P2(5 mL)
P2 = 8 atm
Problem 7:
A gas occupies a volume of 6 L at a pressure of 3 atm. If the pressure is decreased to 1.5
atm, what will be the new volume of the gas?
Solution 7:
Applying Boyle's Law:
(3 atm)(6 L) = (1.5 atm)(V2)
V2 = 12 L
Problem 8:
A gas sample has a volume of 20 mL at a pressure of 1 atm. If the pressure is increased
to 2 atm, what will be the new volume of the gas?
Solution 8:
Using Boyle's Law:
(1 atm)(20 mL) = (2 atm)(V2)
V2 = 10 mL
Problem 9:
A gas occupies a volume of 5 L at a pressure of 2 atm. If the pressure is decreased to 1
atm, what will be the new volume of the gas?
Solution 9:
Applying Boyle's Law:
(2 atm)(5 L) = (1 atm)(V2)
V2 = 10 L
Problem 10:
A gas sample has a volume of 10 mL at a pressure of 3 atm. If the volume is increased to
30 mL, what will be the new pressure of the gas?
Solution 10:P2 = (3 atm)(10 mL) / (30 mL) = 1 atm
The new pressure of the gas will be 1 atm.
Problem 11:
Gas volume is 8 L at a pressure of 2 atm. If the pressure increases to 4 atm, find the new
volume.
Solution 11:
V2 = (2 atm)(8 L) / (4 atm) = 4 L
Problem 12:
Gas volume is 10 mL at a pressure of 3 atm. If the pressure decreases to 1 atm, find the
new volume.
Problem 12:
Gas volume is 10 mL at a pressure of 3 atm. If the pressure decreases to 1 atm, find the new
volume.
Solution 12:
V2 = (3 atm)(10 mL) / (1 atm) = 30 mL
Problem 13:
Gas volume is 5 L at a pressure of 2 atm. If the volume increases to 10 L, find the new pressure.
Solution 13:
P2 = (2 atm)(5 L) / (10 L) = 1 atm
Problem 14:
Gas volume is 100 mL at a pressure of 2 atm. If the volume decreases to 50 mL, find the new
pressure.
Solution 14:
P2 = (2 atm)(100 mL) / (50 mL) = 4 atm
Problem 15:
Gas volume is 4 L at a pressure of 2 atm. If the volume increases to 8 L, find the new pressure.
Solution 15:
P2 = (2 atm)(4 L) / (8 L) = 1 atm
Problem 16:
Gas volume is 10 mL at a pressure of 4 atm. If the volume decreases to 5 mL, find the new
pressure.
Solution 16:
P2 = (4 atm)(10 mL) / (5 mL) = 8 atm
Problem 17
Gas volume is 6 L at a pressure of 3 atm. If the pressure decreases to 1.5 atm, find the new
volume.
Solution 17:
V2 = (3 atm)(6 L) / (1.5 atm) = 12 L
Problem 18:
Gas volume is 20 mL at a pressure of 1 atm. If the pressure increases to 2 atm, find the new
volume.
Solution 18:
V2 = (1 atm)(20 mL) / (2 atm) = 10 mL
Problem 19:
Gas volume is 5 L at a pressure of 2 atm. If the pressure decreases to 1 atm, find the new
volume.
Solution 19:
V2 = (2 atm)(5 L) / (1 atm) = 10 L
Problem 20:
Gas volume is 10 mL at a pressure of 3 atm. If the volume increases to 30 mL, find the new
pressure.
Solution 20:
P2 = (3 atm)(10 mL) / (30 mL) = 1 atm
