지금 우리나라에서는 나무젓가락 재활용이 이론상으로는 가능하다.

이물질이 묻지
않은 폐목재는 재활용 대상이기 때문이다. 하지만 현실상 불가능하다는 게
전문가들의 의견이다.

가정에서 쓰는 양에 비해 분리수거 비용이 너무 크기 때문이다. 분리수거를 하기

위해선 별도 재활용 봉투가 필요하다. 별도 분리수거를 해야 하며, 지자체에 따로
보관공간을 마련해야 한다. 세척비와 재생 비용을 포함하면 재활용 비용이 꽤 든다고
볼 수 있다.

또한 관련 시설이 전혀 없다. 국내에서 나무젓가락을 이용해 재활용을 하는 업체가

없다. 환경부에 관련 내용으로 의뢰를 한 곳도 없다. 아직 업체 쪽에서는 나무젓가락
재활용은 관심 밖인 셈이다.

한국종이팩재활용협회 권혁찬 팀장은 "나무젓가락으로 화장지를 만들긴 사실상

어렵다"며 재활용이 어렵다는 뜻을 비쳤다. 폐목재전문 처리업체인 동화기업의
유성진 차장은 "나무젓가락 재활용에 대해선 생각해보지 못했다"며 "굳이 쓴다면
나무젓가락 에너지화 정도일 것"이라고 말했다.

환경부 관계자는 "재활용은 가능하다. 만약 나무젓가락 재활용과 관련해서 의지가

있는 업체가 문의를 한다면 고려해볼 순 있다"고 답했다.
아무튼 일회용 나무젓가락 재활용 방법이 지금으로선 없는 법이니, 한 번 쓰고 버릴
수밖에 없다. 수입단가가 5 원에 불과하다고 하니, 매일 하나씩 쓴다고 해도 채 2000
원이 되지 않는다. 그러나 그 때문에 사막화와 황사에 영향을 미친다면, 값싸다고
좋아할 만한 일은 아닌 듯하다.

녹색연합에 따르면 우리나라에서 사용되는 일회용 나무젓가락의 양은 연간 25 억 개다.

1 인당 연간 50 여 개를 사용하는 셈이다.

일회용 나무젓가락은 말 그대로 한 번 쓰고 폐기하는 '일회용' 제품이다.

사용 과정에서 타액이나 음식물이 묻기 때문에 나무젓가락을 재사용 하는 것은 사실상
불가능하다.
또, 분리배출 대상이 아니기에 종량제 봉투에 담아 일반 쓰레기로 폐기해야 한다.
자연에서 분해되는 데도 오랜 시간이 소요된다. 나무젓가락이 썩는 데는 20 년가량이
걸리는 것으로 알려졌다.

현재는 DIY 수준으로 밖에 실행되고 있지 않다.

가장 쉬운 방법은 일회용 젓가락의 사용을 줄이는 것이다. 하지만, 부득이하게 일회용

수저를 사용해야 할 경우에는 친환경 젓가락을 사용하는 것도 좋은 방법이다.

대표적인 친환경 젓가락은 억새로 만든 '억새 젓가락'이다.

화학약품 사용 대신 고온 살균 및 소금물 열탕 처리를 거쳐 위생적이고 안전한 제품이다.
사용 후에는 음식물 쓰레기로 폐기하면 되고, 평균 45 일이면 분해되어 자연으로
돌아간다고 한다.

no choice but to use them once and throw them away. The import unit price is
only 5 won, so even if you use one every day, it will not be 2,000 won. However,
if that affects desertification and yellow dust, it does not seem to be something
to like because it is cheap.
