Define the term ‘narrow span of control’.


Answer :
Narrow span of control- According to this span, work and authority are divided among many
subordinates and a manager does not supervise and control the large group of people under him. A
narrow span manager oversees a select number of employees at one time. The features are:
1. Work that requires strict control and supervision, e.g. handicrafts, ivory work, etc. Which
requires work, there narrow spans are more useful.
2. coordination is difficult to achieve
3. Communication gaps can come.
4. Messages may be distorted
5. Job specialization can be achieved.

Define the term ‘decentralized organizational structure’.


Answer :
A decentralized organizational structure is an organizational structure in which decision-making is
largely delegated along the chain of command. In a decentralized organizational structure, lower
managers have more decision-making power, so that decisions are not dependent on a few people
as in a centralized structure.

Please write a full history of Korean Business after 1970s (To be more specific, what industry
did Korean government put more efforts?).[25]

Answer:
After the 1970s, South Korea underwent an economic transformation and achieved significant
progress in various industrial sectors. The South Korean government at that time was active in
devising and implementing strong industrialization policies to boost the country's economic growth.
The following are the industries that the Korean government cultivated more after the 1970s:

1. Manufacturing Industry:

In the early 1970s, the South Korean government shifted its economic focus from agriculture to
the manufacturing sector.
The electronics industry is a key focus, with companies such as Samsung, LG and Hyundai
experiencing rapid growth and developing products such as televisions, home appliances, electronic
components and telecommunications equipment.

2. Automotive Industry:

then the South Korean government developed the national automotive industry.
Hyundai and Kia are the two leading automakers to emerge from South Korea, with full support from
the government in the form of incentives, regulations and supporting infrastructure development.

3. Shipping Industry:

The South Korean government recognizes the importance of the shipping industry as a significant
source of export revenue.
Shipping companies such as Hanjin Shipping and Hyundai Merchant Marine are major players in this
industry.

4. Steel and Ship Industry:

South Korea has a strong steel industry and is a leading ship manufacturer.
Companies like POSCO (Pohang Iron and Steel Company) are becoming one of the largest steel
producers in the world.
South Korea's shipbuilding industry, such as Hyundai Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding &
Marine Engineering, is also growing fast and gaining a leading position in the global market.

The South Korean government provides strong support for the development of information and
communication technology (ICT).
Companies such as Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are becoming global leaders in the
production of electronic devices, including smartphones, computer hardware and
telecommunications equipment.

Discuss the ‘Korean Wave’. [25]

Answer :
The "Korean Wave" or "Hallyu" is a term used to describe the worldwide phenomenon of popularity
of South Korean culture, especially in the areas of entertainment such as music, television dramas,
films, and fashion. This phenomenon began in the late 1990s and has continued to grow rapidly
today. The Korean wave impacted not only the entertainment industry, but also encompassed
various aspects of South Korean culture such as food, fashion, cosmetics, and language. It has played
an important role in introducing and promoting Korean culture to international audiences.
The following are the factors:

1. Television Dramas (K-Dramas): South Korean television drama series have been one of the
main driving factors behind the popularity of the Korean Wave. Dramas such as “Winter
Sonata,” “Descendants of the Sun,” and “Goblin” gained immense popularity in Asia and are
now accessed by fans worldwide via online streaming platforms.

2. Korean Pop Music (K-Pop): The South Korean pop music industry, or K-Pop, has become a
global phenomenon. Pop groups like BTS, BLACKPINK, EXO, and TWICE have huge followings
worldwide.

3. Korean Cosmetics: Korean cosmetic products, such as face creams, masks and other skin care
products, have also attracted global interest. Korean cosmetic brands such as Laneige, Etude
House and Innisfree are gaining great popularity and are recognized worldwide.

4. Korean Food: Korean foods, such as kimchi, bibimbap, bulgogi, and samgyeopsal, have also
gained global popularity. Korean restaurants, Korean fast food outlets, and healthy Korean
dishes are increasingly being found in various countries.
