CHAPTER V: THE INFORMATION AGE

1. Who are the contributors of the technological advances of the Information Age? - Galileo, Copernicus,
Isaac Newton, and the Father of the Information Age, Claud Shannon. 2. Aside from communication,
what other aspects of society is/are being influenced in the Information Age?
- Credibility. People nowadays provide unsolicited, misleading information they call "facts", especially in
terms of Psychotherapy, mental illnesses, trauma responses, and the like. A huge example is a social
media platform named Tiktok is being utilized by these people to spread words. Not only most of them
don't have a degree or a Ph. D., they are mere people who use these topics to discuss while filming
themselves and call themselves 'experts' for fame or "clout". Everyone can now be a therapist, a doctor, a
neuroscientist in the comforts of their mobile phones with a massive boost of followers. Credibility is
now a joke.
3. What other technological advancements can possibly be developed in the future?
- More enhancements and advancements on Al, holographic mode of learning in the premises of
institutions such as schools, medical facilities, corporate settings, etc., medical advancements that will
equip the world of medicine in order to prolong the life of humanity. Those are just the surface ideas.
4. Which Generation do you belong that a kind of science technology existed? Please explain it.
- I belong to the generation where a cure for certain diseases are accessible enough to prolong a life but
with no guarantee. I belong to the generation where reading books were still in, that searching through
shelves of books for homework was done. Mobile phones that are way too high-tech are only for the rich.
Mobile phones that merely provide communication is the only thing you can buy that will fit the budget.
That is the science technology existed of that generation. However, as the world transcends, I find myself
in between of these generations. I also belong to the generation where smartphones is a necessity. Internet
is a need. Communication can be 2 to 3 dimensional. Therefore, I stand in the middle.

5. What can you say about you being a human that is using technology in so many ways?
- Being able to use technology in so many ways is nothing but a privilege. Because capitalists will always
be there to capitalize technology and I'm fortunate enough to have that privilege. 6. What is your meaning
of Data? - Data is a series of information collected for a rightful purpose. If it is not meant to be shared,
you have the right to your data privacy as it is an intellectual property.
7. What kind of Society you are in right now. And explain the culture you have (with technology or not)
- We are living in the society where people continue to be narcissists, but on the brighter side of the
picture, people have learned to be accepting. Other minorities are gaining more respect than ever despite
abuses and hostility. This generation has become more aware and there is visible lesser reliance to
violence. Gradual as it may seem but the world is changing and the hopes for it to change for the better
never stops.

8. How long do you use your computer? Or a Computer? Does this technology helps you find an
important information?

- I use my smartphone as a means to surf and search and explore the web. I use it no less than 10 hurs a
day with intervals in between. It does help me find information that I need.

9. What do you know about the World Wide Web?

- That it is merely a part of the internet containing websites and webpages. It is key to global
information system on the digital scheme. With a few taps and clicks, you are about to find pieces of
information you require.

10. Why do you think that it is right that human evolve into using technologies?

- Because we can never go back. We can only move forward and if that means to evolve into using
technology, it will likely to happen. Technology has also been evolving alongside humans. It became our
best friends that we can rely on to make our lives easier. It became part of our daily lives that if we were
to remove it all at once, we will find ourselves lost in state. Without technology, there is no civilization.

1. Narrative Essay. Write a narrative essay that focuses on the evolution of transmission of information
in various time periods and areas of the world. Refer to Table 1 presented in the discussion. The
members may a in the video presentation and they can use props or materials to improve the
presentation. Limit the video presentation in three to five minutes.

2. Creative work. Think of a device with special features that you can develop to help improve lives of
people ii our society. It could be something that you can develop to help in communication,
transportation, health, and the like. Illustrate your device in a short bond paper.

- If I have the chance to develop something, I probably research on one thing: To convert our roads to
make energy from moving wheels. Dreaming of the collecting energy from the moving wheels in the
country would lessen the electrical energy that is made natural gas. Thus this will also lessen the burden
to many people and will lighten the area where electrical energy can't be access. Specifically in our rural
area or mountains, where people from there still use kettle to brighten their nights.

I got my idea from solar panel, where the heat from the sunlight is converted to power energy that can
be used by appliances. I am thinking if the heat from the sun, and the heat from moving wheels in hi-
ways can lead for better use.
