Page 6 Using the Quadratic Formula, solve any two Quadratic Equations.
Page 7&8 Draw a quadratic graph of . You need to calculate and plot
points. You need to plot enough points to give the shape of the graph.
Join the points with a smooth curve (plot the following on the same
graph sheet).

Project-2
Similarity of Triangles

Contents

1. Introduction.
2. To verify the Ratio of the areas of two similar triangles is equal to the ratio of the
square of their corresponding sides.
3. Observations.
4. Result.
5. Applications of similar triangles in real life.
6. References.

In more detail:

Page 1 Title (should also include your name, class & roll number)

Page 2 Table of Contents

Page 3 Introduction: Definition of similar Triangles, three Similarity Axioms

for triangles with the help of diagrams.

Page 4 1) Construct a triangle ∆ABC with AB= 6 cm, BC = 6 cm, CA = 6 cm.

2) Mark 5 points P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5 at a distance of 1 cm each on side

AB and Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 and Q5 at a distance of 1cm each on side AC.

3) Join P1Q1, P2Q2, …………, P5Q5

4) Draw lines parallel to AC from P1, P2, ……, P5 and also draw lines
parallel to AB from the points Q1, Q2, ……., Q5.

5) Thus ∆ABC is divided into 36 smaller triangles and all are similar to
each other and of equal area.

(Each step should be shown)

Page 5 1) Construct a ∆PQR with PQ = AB, PR = AC and QR = BC
(3cm each). Mark D1, D2 and E1, E2 on sides PQ and PR
respectively.

2) Repeat steps 3 and 4 of page 4

3) Thus ∆PQR is divided into 9 smaller similar triangles, equal in

area.

(Each step should be shown)

Page 6 Observations:

1) area of ∆ABC = area of 36 smaller ∆‟s

2) area of ∆PQR = area of 9 smaller ∆‟s

3) = = =

4) = = = =( )

(because ΔABC ∼ ΔPQR)

Page 7 It is verified that the ratio of the areas of two similar triangles is equal
to the ratio of the square of their corresponding sides.

Page 8 List the applications of similar triangles in daily life (any 2)
