Sources of water Emile

Water sources can be categorized into two main types: natural and man-made.
Natural Sources of Water
1. Lakes and Ponds: These are bodies of water surrounded by land. They are usually formed by
rainwater collecting in low-lying areas. Ponds are smaller than lakes.
2.Rivers and Streams: These are natural sources of water that flow naturally across the land. They
are a vital natural source of freshwater. Streams are smaller than rivers.
3. Wells: A well is a deep hole dug into the ground to access water.
4. Springs: Springs are places where groundwater naturally flows to the surface. People often use
spring water for drinking.
5. Oceans and Seas: Oceans and seas are massive natural sources of water, covering most of the
Earth's surface.
Man-Made Sources of Water
1. Reservoirs: Reservoirs are large artificial lakes created by building dams across rivers. They store
water for various purposes like drinking, irrigation, and generating electricity. (A dam is a barrier
that stops the flow of water.)
2. Canals: Canals are artificial waterways dug by people to transport water for irrigation or
navigation.
3. Water Tanks and Water Towers: These are containers designed to store and distribute water.
They are often used in homes and buildings.
