SECTION A

Solution 1

(i)
Correct Option: (c)
Explanation:
For performing addition or subtraction of two matrices, both has to be of the same order.
So, A + B and A – B are not possible.
Multiplication of matrices is possible when number of columns in the 1st matrix is equal to
the number of rows in the 2nd matrix.
Thus, BA is not possible.
AB is possible as the number of columns in A is same as the number of rows in B,
Hence, AB is possible.

(ii)
Correct Option: (a)
Explanation:
Given: x2 + kx + 6 = (x – 2)(x – 3)
⇒ x2 + kx + 6 = x2 – 3x – 2x + 6
⇒ x2 + kx + 6 = x2 – 5x + 6
⇒ kx = –5x
⇒ k = –5

(iii)
Correct Option: (d)
Explanation:
C.P. for the customer = Rs. 1500 + 10% of Rs. 1500 = Rs. 1650
As the sales are intra-state, GST comprises of two components:
CGST = 5% & SGST = 5%
CGST = 5% of Rs. 1650 = Rs. 82.5
SGST = 5% of Rs. 1650 = Rs. 82.5
GST = 82.5 + 82.5 = Rs. 165

(iv)
Correct Option: (d)
Explanation:
Roots of the equation x2 – 6x + k = 0 are real and distinct.
⇒ Discriminant > 0
⇒ (–6)2 – 4k > 0
⇒ 36 – 4k > 0
⇒k<9

(v)
Correct Option: (c)
Explanation:
1, 4, 9, 16,…..
4 – 1 = 3, 9 – 4 = 5, 16 – 9 = 7
Since, the difference is not constant.
So, this is not an A.P.
3,2 3,3 3,4 3,..........
Here, 2 3  3  3, 3 3  2 3  3,4 3  3 3  3
Since, the difference is constant.
So, this is an A.P.
8, 6, 4, 2,…….
Here, 6 – 8 = –2, 4 – 6 = –2, 2 – 4 = –2
Since, the difference is constant.
So, this is an A.P.
Hence, only 2 and 3 are A.P.s.

(vi)
Correct Option: (c)
Explanation:
Since, x is proportional to y.
⇒ x : y = 6 : M = 12 : 18 = N : 6
⇒ 6 : M = 12 : 18 and 12: 18 = N : 6

⇒ AB : PQ = 3 : 8

(viii)
Correct Option: (b)
Explanation:

So, there will be two cones formed.

Hence, the solid formed is a double cone.

(ix)
Correct Option: (d)
Explanation:
The sun always rise from east.
So, the probability of happening of event A is equal to 1.
On a particular day, either it rains or not rains.
So, the probability of happening of event B is not equal to 1.
We know that, every leap year has 29 days in February.
So, the probability of happening of event C is equal to 1.
Hence, both events A and C will have their probabilities equal to 1.

(x)
Correct Option: (d)
Explanation:
Centroid of a triangle is the centre of the triangle and it is at 2/3 of the distance from the
vertex to the mid-point of the sides.
So, all the vertices are always equidistant from the centroid.

(xi)
Correct Option: (b)
Explanation:
In a circle with radius R, the shortest distance between two parallel tangents is equal to 2R.

(xii)
Correct Option: (a)
Explanation:
Here, α > β > γ
⇒ tan α > tan β > tan γ
Hence, tan α > tan β is satisfied.

(xiii)
Correct Option: (c)
Explanation:
1.
N.V. = Rs. 100 & M.V. = Rs. 80
M.V. < N.V.
So, the shares are at a discount.

2.
N.V. = Rs. 100 & M.V. = Rs. 100
M.V. = N.V.
So, the shares are at par.

3.
N.V. = Rs. 100 & M.V. = Rs. 120
M.V. > N.V.
So, the shares are at a premium.

Hence, shares of company C are at premium.

(xiv)
Correct Option: (b)
Explanation:
A line passes through origin when its x and y coordinates are 0 at the same time.
For 2x – 3y = 0
⇒ 2x = 3y
When x = 0, we get y = 0
So, it passes through (0, 0).
Hence, the equation 2x – 3y = 0 represents a line passing through origin.

(xv)
Correct Option: (c)
Explanation:
To find median of the given observations, we first need to arrange the terms in ascending
or descending order of their magnitude.
So, the assertion is true.
The middle term or the central most term of the arranged data becomes the median.
Thus, reason is also true.

⇒ x2 + 3x – 18 = 0
⇒ x2 + 6x – 3x – 18 = 0
⇒ x(x + 6) – 3(x + 6) = 0
⇒ (x + 6)(x – 3) = 0
⇒ x + 6 = 0 or x – 3 = 0
⇒ x = –6 or x = 3
Number of people can’t be negative.
So, x = 3.

Steps of Construction:
I. Draw a line segment AB = 6 cm.
II. Draw ∠ABX = 60°.
III. Make an arc with centre B radius 5 cm at BX and name the point of intersection
as C.
IV. Join AC. ∆ABC is the required triangle.
V. Draw angle bisectors of ∠B and ∠C and name the point of intersection as P

VI. Draw perpendicular bisectors of AB and BC. The point of intersection is same as
P.
VII. Draw a circle with centre P which touches vertices A and B.

Let f(x) = 2x3 – 9x2 + 7x + 6
For x = –2, we get
f(x) = f(2) = 2(2)3 – 9(2)2 + 7(2) + 6 = 16 – 36 + 14 + 6 = 0
⇒ (x – 2) is the factor of f(x).
To find the other factors, let’s divide f(x) by (x – 2)
2x 2  5x  3
x  2 2x  9x 2  7x  6
3

2x3  4x 2
 
 5x 2  7x  6
 5x 2  10x
 
 3x  6
 3x  6
 
0
Now, 2x2 – 5x – 3 = 2x2 – 6x + x – 3 = 2x(x – 3) + x – 3 = (x – 3)(2x + 1)
⇒ 2x3 – 9x2 + 7x + 6 = (x – 2)(x – 3)(2x + 1)
