Limiting Reactant and Percent Yield Worksheet

Direction: Read and comprehend the following problems. Show your solution in the space provided.
Minimize erasures. Solution should be hand written. (5 points each)

1. Copper (II) chloride reacts with sodium nitrate, copper (II) nitrate and sodium
chloride are formed. Consider the balanced chemical equation below:
CuCl2 + 2 NaNO3 → Cu(NO3)2 + 2 NaCl

a. If 15 grams of copper (II) chloride reacts with 20 grams of sodium nitrate,

how much sodium chloride can be formed? Identify the limiting reactant
and calculate the theoretical yield.

b. If 11.3 grams of sodium chloride are actually formed in the reaction, what
is the percent yield of this reaction?
2. The reaction 2 H2(g) + O2 → 2 H2O(g) is used to produce electricity in a
hydrogen fuel cell. Suppose a fuel cell contains 150 g of H2 and 1500 g of O2.
a. identify the limiting reactant.

b. Calculate the theoretical yield.

c. Calculate the percent yield in this reaction if 700 grams of H2O are formed.
