"PHYSICS B, HIGH SCHOOL CHAPTER 1: STATIC ELECTRICITY
Lesson 1
An electric charge that creates an electric field around it is called the source electric charge
and is represented by Q. It is measured in Coulombs (Symbol C).
The smallest charges from which all others originate are the proton (p+) and the electron (e-).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To determine how strong or weak an electric field is, there are two ways:
• The electric field intensity E, which is a vector quantity (measured in N/C).
• The field lines.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The electric field created around a stationary, point electric charge is called the Coulomb
field, and we will primarily focus on it in the first chapter of this book. The intensity at a
point N is given by the relationship E = K|Q|/r2, where:
• Q = source charge
• r = distance from point N to electric charge Q
• K = 9 × 109 N·m²/C²."

If I place another electric charge q at a distance r from the electric charge Q (source
charge), electrostatic forces F1 and F2 act between the two charges, whichQ
1 are repulsive if the electric charges are of the same type (both positive or both
negative)
2. are attractive if the charges are of different types (one positive and the other
negative)
where Ԑ is the intensity of the electric field created around the electric charge Q.
If the electric field is a Coulomb field (see lesson 1), equation (1) becomes:
𝐾‧⌈𝑄⌉‧⌈𝑞⌉
F= and the force F is called Coulomb force.

The electrostatic force F is a vector quantity and is measured in Newtons (N) in the
International System of Units (SI)."
